Prof. Ralescu is the without a doubt the most difficult professor Ive ever had. Not only is he a tough grader (no partial credit) on test with only 4 problems, he also doesnt explain lectures well and never shows specifically what will be on exams. If you like your GPA do not take him.

Comment:

Great lectures. kind of rude when you approach him outside of class and almost belittling and discouraging to talk to him. Exams are grades very harshly, almost no partial credit. The first exam I forgot a step and got 0 points on the whole question (got an 80%). The next exams and the final I took my time and got 100%'s. Doable just stressful.....

Comment:

Most of your grade relies on exams. The exams will be only 3-5 problems. The problems aren't bad, but if you make a tiny mistake, expect to get almost the entire problem wrong. For example, each problem is worth 10 points. Say you get the bounds of an integral wrong: He'll take off 8 points. Do that for 2 other problems: You're looking at a F.

Comment:

Dr. Ralescu has been by far the best calculus professor I have taken at UC. He uses most of class time explaining concepts and doing examples, and always takes time to lighten the mood with a few jokes. He does grade very harshly on exams, but don't be afraid to ask for points back. I ended up leaving with grades at least 10% higher each time.

Comment:

Dr Ralescu is one of the best professors I've had so far. He clearly explains what he's talking about and is careful to be sure the students understand the material. He is hilarious as well, which helps with early classes. The exam grading can be rough sometimes, but if you study you'll do fine.

Dr. Dan is the man! took him for multi variable calculus and I found this class easier than calculus 1 and 2 with him teaching. does lots of examples on the board and makes hard concepts seem easier! the tests are straight forward and pretty fair and you can always expect what will be on them. Also uses some humor (BLESS YOU!!).

He teaches as a professor should: lots of examples. About 90% of class time is him explaining and doing problems on the board, the other 10% is him cracking jokes and being hilarious. To understand the material and pass the course, you need to show up to class. I would definitely take another class with him.

I think that overall he is a good teacher. He is hilarious, would joke around, and engage with the class but you would also have to study for his tests. If you studied and you studied well, you will pass the tests that you have to take for his class. If you don't study and chose to "wing" the test, there is a 50/50 chance that you would have an A.

I loved this guy, he knew what he was talking about and he was funny. If you don't pay attention in class he will pick on you but it's pretty easy to pay attention in his class. He was very good at making complex math problems make sense. Only grades in my class were online homework and 4 exams so make sure you pay attention.

I wish Dr. Dan taught more classes! I took him for multivariable calculus and I never missed a beat. The whole class is him doing examples on the white board while explaining the reasoning behind each situation. He knows so much back story and really cares that his students are engaged and in class. He loves his comic relief for sure!

I took him for the summer which was an accelerated version of applied calc 1, which was torture.. he's a very nice professor and if you ask for help he is very willing and encouraging. as far as grading, he's pretty tough and not very leinant. honestly, the lower the class average, the better curve you'll see

Took this professor over the summer for Applied Calc 1. I would never recommend someone taking this course over the summer. It was 4 weeks of hell. Funny guy to some, annoying to others. Hilarious comment when you sneeze. Grades fairly, tests are over class material. You just need to know what you are doing and you'll pass.

One of my favorite professors I've ever had. He can be hard to understand every once in a while, but he has absolutely no problem repeating himself. He throws in clever little jokes to try to keep the class engaged. Some people are jerks and ignore them but he's actually pretty funny. Genuinely cares about students. He enjoys getting to know you.

Calculus is a difficult subject as it is. Dr. Ralescu is a decent professor and very funny, especially when you sneeze... He can get off topic very easily though and not explain things very well sometimes leaving his sentences unfinished.

Did not use the required textbook. Posted camera phone pictures of reading material instead of using the book. Guy was so hard to follow because he was unorganized. Tests were unlike anything we saw in class. I went to every class and was still confused. Don't even bother asking questions because he doesn't even address what you asked. AVOID HIM!!!

Goes over material very well. Gives homework but doesn't grade it. Doesn't use calc portal. Tests are impossibly hard but with crazy curves. Took attendance once because there were only like 10 kids there. Funny. Only grades are the three tests
