I think this guy gets a bad rep on here. I managed to get an A while taking 12 other credits and working. If you don't put in the time, you won't pass but if you do, you'll be fine. He curves tests like crazy and gives really helpful hints before exams open. Just ignore the condescending emails, other than that I thought his class was interesting.

Fairly easy class if you utilize your resources properly. Professor is pretty arrogant, and does not care too much about his students. However, if you take it online that won't matter to you. Free response questions are graded extremely harsh, however you can fill out as many score discrepancy forms as you need. That easily bumped my grade by 12%

Professor Capco is wonderful for lower level classes, but avoid at all cost once you get to higher level courses with this guy. Worst professor I have had in a while, and I still managed an A. Unorganized, requires you to regurgitate information which is nearly impossible when he doesn't even give you the proper resources for learning.

Capco was a good professor and you can tell he really cares about his students and enjoys teaching biology. This class had a ton of lecture videos and weekly assignments. His exam and quiz questions are taken word for word from his practice quizzes called "self-checks" that he gives you the opportunity to do. Do those each week and your solid!

Professor Capco really knows so much about biology his lectures are interesting and sometimes fun, and he really likes his tea, in order to pass this class do the self checks everything on those will be on his quizzes and exams, you can really get an A in this class just study hard and do all assignments

Taken online; no book--information is covered in lectures. Lectures are lighthearted and informational, you WILL know what is important for the exams. The course is well structured to build upon previously learned concepts. Do the Module Self-Checks & watch the lectures at 1.25-1.5 speed, you can pause/rewind as necessary.

Comment:
Capco is not rude but he can be tactless in dialog with students. He is an expert in the field & expects students have a firm grasp on concepts & devote a significant amount of time to his class alone. Exam essay Qs require small details & make up most of the grade. I found him funny but many get infuriated with him. Overall good class but not easy

Thought this class would be easy but, he throws you into his lectures thinking that you know all about science. Plus, he RAMBLES A LOT in his lecture vids. 10-15 min long videos w/ only 5 mins of info. Quizzes are easy, his concept questions make NO sense, tests are not that hard but his short essay answers are VAGUE. Easy if you put the effort in.

Dr. Capco has such an obvious love for the subject that it is impossible not to be drawn in and mesmerized by his lectures. You can tell he really wants you to pass his course and he provides good direction on what to focus on along the way. I hope to take many more courses with Dr. Capco at ASU.

Capco is very rude to students! He has been the worst professor I have yet to come across. I'm a biochem major and barely got a C in this course because of the insane amount of small detail he requires for his essay part of exams. Seriously avoid at all costs.

Comment:
Capco is very condescending . He wrote the book, which jumps between topics, is not concise, and is full of errors. Students did (free) copy editing for extra credit. He barely lectures; the videos posted are rambling and rarely on-topic. Expects expert level of detail in essays. You will have to teach yourself the material via the internet. AVOID

Comment:
The content of the course is NOT difficult. What is terrible is the professor. He is rude to students and stares at the chest of a female student in his lecture videos. His tests are not written well. He does not specify the level of detail he's looking for, and then he penalizes and scolds students for not adding suffiently detailed answers.

Prof Capco seems to thoroughly enjoy biology and teaching. He slowly builds a foundational understanding of different systems and how everything works together. He seems to have figured out how students actually learn and tries to implement that. This class is easy. Exams based on self checks. Watch videos, take notes on powerpoints he provides.

There was no textbook required, all of his lectures are from powerpoint(printable as well) and videos of him going through the lectures. He cares about your well being such as giving you breathing exercises and drinks a lot of tea. The self checks are important! Don't take those for granted because they will help you pass.

Clear and manageable homework criteria, class was a bit lecture heavy so take the time to watch his videos and then take the self quizzes. you can retake the labs till you get your desired grade. graded quizzes every week and an exam (using RPNow) every 3 weeks. He loves the material and it makes the course much more enjoyable. highly recommend him

Capco is a classic professor, his class BIO 181 was very well taught in my opinion. The class is Lecture heavy. At least 3 hours a week. 10 hours a week of work in this class and you can probably squeak an A. Capco himself is very likable and passionate about science.

Very knowledgeable professor, but expects you to study the material very closely and work for your grade. Listening to the lectures is very important but DO THE CHAPTER REVIEW QUIZZES!!! They're basically study guides that he is providing for you.

There was no book required but there were weekly lectures. As long as you watch the lectures and do the chapter self checks you will do very well in the class. The exam and quiz questions are taken straight from the self checks. This class just requires a lot of time- I worked an average 4 hours a day.

I took as an online class. I understand he can be a bit everywhere, however I will say I have never met a professor who has broken down the material the way he does. i would repeat the videos over and over and it just clicked. He is able to build a solid foundation and understanding for you. I have a deeper appreciation for bio now.

This is one of the best courses I've ever taken in my college career and it was my first Biology course. Dave Capco is so passionate about Biology and makes the lectures so clear and concise. The exams are exactly like the practice quizzes and I was able to get over a 100% in the course. Watch the lectures and read the syllabus, you'll get an A.
