You can tell David is so passionate about music. Further, he addresses and teaches a lot of social issues within this class as well. MUSC 323 was a super interesting and enlightening class. His quizzes may be a bit unpredictable but thats okay because we love David

Dr. Metzer is a great professor that clearly knows his stuff. If you're looking for a good arts elective to take and you have an interest in music, MUSC 326 is definitely a course you should go for. Quizzes may be a little tough (short answer + listening), but as long as you pay attention in class you'll be fine.

This was a good class and it was pretty interesting, especially if you're a musician and would like to know more about how the music we listen to today got to where it is through the years.

Great prof who loves to share his passion for music. His lectures are clear and knowledgeable, and tailored to inspire interest in popular music. Teaches an exceptionally fun class that can serve as a great stress reliever. Be sure to show up to lectures and take notes, you'll guarantee yourself a decent mark overall if you do.

He's very organized and knows how to teach. But he talks so fast that it's hard to take notes and you HAVE TO GO TO EVERY LECTURE to get a decent mark.

most enjoyable course that i have taken. i listened to contemporary music and have no music training, but took this course after a friend recommended it. attend the lectures, take notes, listen to the pieces at home and you'll do well. dr. metzer gives very engaging lectures and selects fantastic pieces, so i enjoyed attending his 9:30 lectures.

Very clear, helpful professor who presents material in an interesting manner. However, tests are difficult unless you attend every class, take notes, and LISTEN to the pieces over and over again. If you know all the pieces inside out, you are guaranteed an A plus. Surprisingly pulled off 98% on the final.

I enjoyed this course very much. Dr. Metzer did a good job of presenting the material. The exams required quite a bit of preparation (listening to the pieces over and over), but they were not difficult.

Great prof! I recommend taking it in the summer-its much easier and less memorization of the music. He was always extra helpful, spent extra time to go over things!Got a great mark, but he does not write many things on the board, you should bring a lap top to catch what he is saying in the lecture.

Studying for this midterm was a complete riot. It was basically me vs. Ipod.... full of opera, symphonies and other 18th century music. The tests are definitely not easy but manageable if you attend class and take notes. Lectures are excellent, textbook is not. Prof is very helpful and reasonable. Dork-charm is what makes him approachable :)

Ok, this class wasn't easy, but I learned more than I have in any other history class. No textbook, everything is lecture based - but he's a brilliant lecturer who's teaching style commands the attention of the entire class. He knows everything there is to know about 20th century music. Also very helpful during office hours.

Midterm and final are very hard. (Listening questions are so hard and obscure.) Many of my classmates did not do that well. This course is not an easy elective. Make sure to take excellent notes and attend all classes if you are planning to take this course and want to get an high mark.

Excellent prof. Very clear in lectures and keeps class engaged. Quite well dressed as well. Looks like Jack from Will and Grace. But must study and pay attention in class cuz his exams are a bit on the hard side, though fair.

Don't let his Sean Hayes-like apprearance (from will & Grace) throw u off! He certainly knows his stuff and gives entertaining lectures but his exams are marked really hard. Very difficult listening questions and subjective markings. Unless u r prepared to put lots of time in, reconsider.
