Comment:
Absolutely a terrible professor. Doesnt teach well, makes mistakes throughout the lecture and just confuses the class. Im better off skipping the class and reading the book. He only gives notes in words and then puts formulas weve never seen or practiced on the exam.

Very ntelligent, tough, has high expectations.; I mean we are in college, after all; has interesting sense of humor that I appreciated. Would serve best in private tutorials. And he could lighten up a bit, re: relating to students and not taking himself so seriously, a trend in academia today that is unbecoming to professorial karma.

This is a transition course. The shift expects the student to do the lions share of learning. The book is all you should need. Dr. Weiss is very capable and knowledgable in answering questions quickly as the class asks them. You need to take the challenge of attacking the material yourself. Come prepared and he is easy to follow.

Dr. Weiss helped me personally because I went to office hours three times a week for over a hour each time. That was the only time I actually learned from him. Lectures are not useful and he does not solve the problem fully. AVOID TAKING HIM!!! I spent close to five hours a day on just calculus and am still barley getting a C.

I have taken Calculus before and still almost didn't pass this class. Your grade consists of two exams. On both exams 50% or more received a failing grade. Gary is a rude and incomprehensible man. He does not care how you do (although he make act like it). His explanations will just confuse you. Avoid at all costs.

Usually not someone to leave reviews on anything... But for your own good, please avoid Gary Weiss. Entering the semester, I saw all the bad reviews he had but thought "How bad could it be?" Well it is terrible. Gary is an arrogant, unhelpful, stubborn man and he is by far the worst teacher I have ever had in all my life.

Doesn't teach the material correctly and is very confusing. Reads straight from the book and doesn't explain theorems. Exams are a high percent of your grade and the midterm in my class 43% of the class failed, even with a curve, if that puts anything in perspective.

Do NOT take Gary. Terrible professor. He does not explain material well at all. I tried going in for extra help multiple times, but all he did was say that I was making 'idiotic mistakes' and did not belong in the class, even though I was looking for help.

Avoid Gary at all costs. His tests are awful and he gives no partial credit. I would say that you could learn from him in lecture, but his lectures consist of him failing to work out problems or reading the book to you. He is a condescending, horrible man and has no respect for a majority of his students.

Comment:
Typically not spiteful but Gary was awful. Expects participation and homework but grade is based entirely on very difficult tests. I had several correct answers get zero credit because my logic was slightly flawed. Very condescending, expects graduate-level performance from undergrads. Attend lectures--he draws some test problems from these.

His tests are very difficult, and his homework assignments (which are not graded, but her insists you do them) are very long. His lectures are clear though.

Here's the thing with this teacher... he wants you to do assignments (which are VERY long) and show up to his classes, but he does not grade these assignments. Therefore, there is not a whole lot of motivation to learn. Also, his tests are hard, but the curves are fair.

Comment:
He is incredibly condescending in class if you ask questions. His partial credit is a joke. He'll tell you exactly how to do something in class, then if you do it like that on the exam you'll get a zero. HIs teaching method is so incompatible with learning and if anyone told him that he'd scoff, because he thinks he's God's gift to mathematics.

Do not take this class!! I would be shocked if he could pass his own test, considering his lectures consist of him struggling to do an example problem out of the text book. He has no place teaching, easily the worst academic experience I've ever had. I'm shocked he's still employed.

If you are not good at teaching yourself DO NOT TAKE HIM. He blows through the material, working and talking himself through it during class. Class hinges on people asking questions but when he answers them he just works on the board, back to the class, thinking out loud and it's impossible to follow. Very condescending if you ask a "dumb" question

Difficult professor to take, although he is always open to help outside of class and truly cares about his students as long as they put in the effort. His lectures aren't very helpful and are short because he spends most of class answering questions students have. Very nice and helpful person, just a dificult professor.

His teaching methods require you to work ahead of him and come to class with questions, so don't assume he's going to cover everything in class. I didn't find this method very effective for a math course. I wouldn't recommend taking his class, but it's not the end of the world if you have to.
