The basics: when I had him, class was not mandatory but we had little quizzes on an app at the beginning of each class that counted for credit; hes really dorky with a dry sense of humor (not a bad thing, just really funny and awkward); hes nice and loved engaging students in debate and discussion, which really, really helped for the final.

Professor Whitehouse is absolutely amazing! He is funny and does his best to get the class engaged in his lectures. There are readings to do before class along with a related reading prompt but skimming the readings and understanding their general themes is enough to complete these. He also let us use notes, textbook, and pp slides on the final!!

Out of all my classes in the fall this by far was my favorite. If you actually give professor Whitehouse a chance he is very entertaining and fun to listen to. However, the readings are a little long but if you just skim and listen to lectures you'll be fine. Also read summaries to get through graded reading questions.

This class was fairly easy, as long as you read the assigned reading you will pass just fine. There's no final, just three reading tests, two easy papers, and the rest is making sure you're reading and in class for lectures since he grades attendance/participation through an app. He's funny and reading isn't too bad, maybe 60 pages per week

Prof. Whitehouse is great but the Intro to Philosophy class, it is alot of work. 3 books that we read, you are expected to read before class because they are in class reading quizzes. Attendence matters because he does his class through an app so you always need the attendence code. They are 2 papers to write and 3 reading tests and group projects

Great professor! There is quite a bit of reading assigned, but he explains all the information really well in his lectures. I thought that I was going to hate philosophy but I didn't dread coming to the lectures because he's funny! He has a son that is college-aged so he tries to be relatable. If you do the readings you will pass no problem!

Lectures are extremely boring. I taught myself by reading a ton and my own research but I rarely learned anything from his lectures. Also He doesn't put grades in until a week or two after it was completed. Does not update Canvas grade until near the end of the semester from TopHat.

DO NOT TAKE WHITEHOUSE. He didn't have grades in canvas from september the day before the final, wayyyy too hard for an INTRO class and assigned busy work with no actual meaning. The guy is nice and I think he means well but as a professor, he's not that great.

If you read the books that are assigned and show up to class you will pass no problem. The homework is based off lectures, easy to do if you read and pay attention in class. He was very knowledgeable about all the topics and was always available outside the classroom for extra help.

Professor Whitehouse is very knowledgeable and passionate about what he is teaching. Maybe it was because the class was so early in the morning, but all I can say is read when he assigns homework and don't wait until last minute to do assignments. Doesn't keep up with the grades on canvas it takes a couple of weeks to know your grade.

Professor Whitehouse is a good professor, he knows what he is talking about in regards to Philosophy. The only reason I would not take him again is he does not keep the grades up to date. I went through the first 75% of the course without knowing my grade which bothers me as I stalk my grades. Other than that he was fine.

I ended up dropping this class because it was not as advertised in the catalog (should have been called "Catholics and Reason"). Had hoped for more variety of faiths. What he was teaching he seemed to know, but the material didn't challenge much of anything or promote much thought. I can only chart so many arguments before I get annoyed/leave, bro.

He is attractive only if you like nerdy men, but he is amazingly sweet. The pace that he takes in the course though is a little to fast, but he is willing to practically let you get away with murder if you attend his office hours. Overall, he is one of the better picks for the philosophy department.
