Professor Fry was a very helpful teacher. He sent everyone emails of his notes. Exams became more difficult as the semester progressed. He took points off unnecessarily on exams for silly things. I would probably recommend him for a long semester but not for a short one.

Excellent professor, very helpful in class and during office hours. Not such an easy class, though. Grade is based solely on tests, but he's definitely a fair grader. Tests were pretty long, usually 15-20 moderate to challenging problems that took the whole class. Makes and sends out his own study worksheets on the topics. Definitely recommend

Professor Fry is an solid choice for mathematics professor. He makes his own examples when lecturing, and he posts his notes online for students to view. His exams take two to three hours to complete, so keep your energy levels up. He does not drop lowest test score, so be aware of that. Exams are fair otherwise.

Straightforward professor. Doesn't try to trick you. Do the practice problems he sends.

Doesn't drop your lowest test grade like some professors. His lectures are good, only puts stuff on the test that you covered in class, and gives a clear outline of what's going to be on each test. Hard, but he is organized which helps manage it all. Four tests plus the final.

I took the class during winter. Professor Fry's lectures are clear. He tells the students what will not appear on the test. The difficulty of the exams increases though out the semester. The final was long. Get enough glucose for final. He is fair grader. He still gave some credits when I got most part of the problem wrong. No tricky exam problems

Unfortunately, I took this class during winter with rusty calculus skills, so it was a disaster waiting to happen. I have nothing against Professor Fry, but the accelerated pace of the class did not work for me at all. Fry doesn't collect homework. Since it was winter, there were no quizzes either, so your grade relies on tests. Tests were tough.

As with most math professors at SMC, you must be willing to work for the grades you want. I know that's not what most people want to hear, but professor Fry is no exception to this. Calculus is difficult class to take, make sure you have enough time to learn the concepts thoroughly and practice, practice, practice. He's approachable and helpful.

A good calculus teacher is hard to find. I have taken calculus with several different teachers and Prof. Fry is by far the best. The couple reviews before this one are a bit unfair. His tests aren't easy, but they are not much harder than the average calculus tests. He is so clear though, so I recommend him to all my friends.

Comment:
Mr. Fry is the most confusing professor I've ever taken for math. He goes through sections really fast. Barely stops to answer questions. His tests are completely stupid, they have questions on them that he's never gone over. He has "handouts" but they don't help. I read and taught myself from the book and managed to get a good grade. Stay away.

He is willing to teach and help those having problem. there is homework but he never checks it. I recommend to least do some of homework because his test is base on homework. You do not require textbook but needed for homework(you can take a picture of homework page instead buying 150$ book). There is no extra credit.

I've taken Prof Fry since PreCalc to Calc II by design. He gives great notes on tougher subjects that i've continued to use in my upper division coursework that are easy to follow and have good examples to see their use. Before him i'd failed Precalc twice, but he makes math very intuitive and explains concepts very well.

He provides helpful practice sheets and seems to have planned out material to cover before class. His tests are long and sometimes very difficult (especially the last two), so make sure to review often. If you can understand the topics conceptually, you can perform well in his class. He'll bump your grade way up if you find a grading mistake.

I'm no math person, I failed my first attempt at math 7. Fry is a blessing of a professor. Calc 2 is a really tough class. Fry makes it interesting and understanding. You must attend class and must do homework to do well.

You have to study hard in Math 8 and in Fry's class to get an A. Otherwise it'll be hard unless you're very talented. Teaching style is effective and logical. Beware math8 students: material gets hard after the 2nd test. Better put in more hours.

I had to drop my last math class because I was getting such a bad grade, then I got into Fry's class and did really well. He got into class 30 minutes early and spent the time reviewing with whoever needed it. He's nice and wants you to succeed!
