You can tell that Dr. Petracchi cares a lot about her students. She made the class very accessible to students with diverse interests in the field of social work, allowing a lot of autonomy in the policy analysis paper. When I took her course the midterm and final exam were both open-note, and that really contributed to knowing all of the material.

When I first met her, I had a bad feeling about taking this class! She doesn't provide helpful feedback and will always defer to her TAs if you have a question. All you need to do to pass this class: come to class, do your policy paper, and do your take home test. Consider all the readings as optional. Basically everyone does other things in class.

Didn't want to take this course, it was required. Petracchi convinced us that politics and policy matter - that we can make a difference. Lots of reading. But worth it. Glad I was forced to take this.

Easy class, Terrible professor. Very hard to communicate with outside of the classroom. Class was an easy A. Midterm and final were very easy. She is very dismissive when she doesn't agree with a students opinion. She has major problems with letting students know what grade they got on an assignment and why they got that grade.

I love Dr. Petracchi. Extremely clear on all material. If you don't understand just ask. She loves the group project thing. She is very approachable even though she can seem tough and she is super understanding and supportive. Highly recommended.

This is one rude and nasty lady, a straight up WITCH. Biased, prejudice and misrepresents the views with who she disagrees. Spews leftist dogma every class & treats students like dummies if they ask questions. Only good thing about this course is online midterm & final & one paper. That's all that's required for course.

I did NOT want to take this class (it's required) But Helen changed my mind about policy. She made me think about things from a new perspective. Her assignments were hard but I learned A LOT! Take this course. You won't regret it!

Don't understand the comments from the other person in this class...I find Helen to be interesting, entertaining and more than fair. She is also willing to go out of her way for students (we didn't even use a bibliography???)

She is extremely confusing and often mixes up definitions during class lecture. She turns the things you say around in her head - like asking if there is a bibliography and she says "no." But you realize she said no cause it's not graded, so you double check and she says "well of course you have to cite your sources." And class is really boring.
