Comment:

Jackie is PHENOMENAL! I was unsure of what I wanted to do with my life, but she really helped me develop the skills I need to be a confident anchor or reporter. She truly cares about students learning and being able to be job ready. A bit intimidating at first, but definitely one of my all time favorites. Highly recommend her as a professor.

I've taken 2 classes with Jackie and will continue to take her in other classes. She is so caring and really wants you to succeed. You definitely have to work for a good grade but she's there to help and is willing to meet outside of class. She also has experience in both media and corporate communication so her lectures are very relevant.

I've taken two of Jackie's classes now and she is a real gem. Tough and intimidating at first, but she truly cares about the student's learning and by the time you leave you feel extremely prepared for a real career in media communications.

Can I say best professor ever? Jackie has pushed me SO much this semester in her class, and her tough love and feedback have inspired me to take myself to the next level. She is always available to talk about class work or life, and I think it's important to have a professor who is always there for you! I look forward to working with her next term!

Dr. Layng is all about tough love. She's can be a picky grader, but you are on screen afterall so everyone that sees you will pick too! If you follow her tips, practice your scripts, and pay attention during lectures you will be fine! Usually, her lectures are good, she makes it fun! I think she's pretty funny too! No textbook, no tests :)

Shes tough BUT ONLY BECAUSE SHE ACTUALLY CARES! I've never met a professor that cares as much as her! She has taught me so much in news-writing& UT:10. If your major is Broadcasting - you must take her! Very time consuming but VERY WORTH IT! I've never learned as much as I did taking UT:10! Will def. take it again! This class will make or break u.

I asked her to sign me into her class, by which she told me she had a full class, when there were 5 seats open! She just didn't like that I wasn't there on the first day, and I felt like she grades according to whom she likes.

The class will take all of your time and have you pulling your hair out but if journalism or production is what you want to do its a world of help and gets easier in the end. Jackie is tuff and picky but a really great professor. She helps in many aspects.

One of the least enjoyable professors at UT. Her criticism is very rarely constructive. Grades based heavily on participation, which equates to asking a question you already know the answer to every now and then. Grading is finicky and often incomprehensible. Not recommended.

Dr. Layng is one of the best teachers at school. She is very nice and incredibly helpful. She pushes you to do your best. I have known her since I was a freshman, and I wouldn't be where I am without her help. If you have the chance to take her DO IT!

Picky and concise. She may appear cut-and-dry in the beginning. Definately knows what she is talking about though. Overall, I would recommend her highly. At first I didn't expect the class to be easy, as she makes it seem, but I ended up with a grade higher than I expected.
