Comment:
Dr. Eves is a very knowledgable professor who clearly cares about the topics he discusses and hopes his students care as well (despite many who are only there for a gen-ed requirement). His lectures are very interesting, especially because he tells history in the form of stories and often from new perspectives (Ex:Jamestown from native viewpoint).

Prof. Eves is a great lecturer and a great person, you need to go to class to pass. The grading is based off of essays and papers from in class material only, and little extra readings w/ worksheets due in discussion. Overall, I hate history but would be more than happy to take another class he is teaching.

He posts the powerpoints online but the meat of his lecture isn't on the slides so you should show up and pay attention if you want good info. Weekly homework is one page essay on a reading. Pretty easy. Two longer (5 pages) take home essays and midterm/final is in-class essay. Easy to zone out but interesting if you care to pay attention

Professor Eves is a great person. As a historian, he tends to ramble during lectures and they can sometimes become very boring.. You should be in class because he randomly takes attendance. Essays aren't bad and you can bring in a cheat sheet for the midterm/final

One of THE BEST professors in UCONN! Think of your loving dad/grandpa teaching you about something he truly loves and enjoys and that is what you'll get with him! He loves to throw out jokes, some corny but still funny...he is "dad" funny! He is an easy grader and truly cares about his students, he really wants you to learn. Def take him!!!!

Very Interesting teacher. Really knows what he is talking about and keeps things interesting. However grading is completely up to the TA so keep that in mind. I got all A's except in this class because my TA was tough.

Dr. Eves explains things very clearly and simply. Lectures are identical to his textbook, but it's worth going to class just because he gives an interesting lecture. I would have liked to see more depth in the material, however. Also you'll need to write dialogs in this class and at the end of the day I'd just rather write and essay. Wroth taking.

I took Eve's class a few years ago as a GenED requirement. He is a local historian when he is not teaching and he relates to that in class. he's a great teacher, very interesting. essays are his exams and they're long but easy if you pay attention. He's a great professor. One of the best at UConn

Your grade really depends on your TA. They make quizzes for discussion and grade all your papers. Eves is an interesting lecturer but doesn't do any work besides that. Lectures were somewhat helpful but you could do well without going. Attending discussion for me was a must because of my TA.

Eves is a GREAT teacher. He tells history like a story and because of that, makes it really interesting. The work is definitely manageable and not that hard. Your grade entirely depends upon your TA. I suggest Erin Bartram - she is fantastic. The exams are all essay questions which you have plenty of time to prepare for.

I never went bc what he says in lecture is same as book, since he wrote it. But for the few times i did go, he made lecture interesting. What killed me is the TA i had, if you get Anthony, RUN! Hes such an a** and he grades so hard on the dialogues and tests, which suck bc there based on lots of reading, but ur allowed cheatsheets on tests.

Eves is the best prof at uconn. He is funny, interesting and relates history well to things students can connect with. He is very clear and helpful although the TAs do almost all the grading. The tests consist of one essay but a cheat sheet is allowed. Definately take this class! If you do the work you will easily get an excellent grade + learn alo

Most people say he is an easy teacher, but their essays, dialogues, and quizzes are being graded by their TA's. Eves himself is a funny and good lecturer, but he is a complete jerk if you try to get help from him. He even admitted that in his syllabus! He will insult you, and just make you feel bad. Basically he just thinks he's above all students.

No point in going to class ever! Just read the parts in the book you need for the exam questions. he is GREAT because he gives you the possible questions ahead of time, and lets you have an answer sheet for the exam. DO THE DIALOGUES!!! AND GO TO DISCUSSIONS!!! that part sucks, but if you have robert howe, only go when you need to hand in work

Prof. Eves is one of the nicest professors I've had at UConn. He is approachable and easy to talk to; he makes US History simple to understand and interesting to read. Exams require quite a bit of writing (he allows a cheat sheet for exams) but if you put in the effort, you will do well. There are also weekly homework assignments due in discussion.

Perfect professor for a gen ed/basic lvl course. He allows you to bring a cheat sheet for the midterm and final, where the info can be all found in the powerpoints. As long as you go to class, take down the notes, and hand in work for discussions, you're guaranteed a good grade. He's a sweet dorky prof, just ask him about his bow ties!
