Comment:

Harris is super funny and nice and runs an informal classroom. There is honestly no reason to fail a class with him, as long as you attend class. He doesn't use canvas much which is confusing, and his slides don't have much information. He's very passionate about journalism and has lots of experience. Overall, I would really recommend his class.

Comment:

John is the greatest professor for feature writing. He gives you blunt, honest feedback that sometimes stings to hear but will make you a better writer. He truly cares about your writing and that you are succeeding in life. He will remove the clutter from your writing, and you will never be able to go back. Be raw will your personal essay.

John is truly one of the best professors in the entirety of the Journalism department. He cares much more about how much we learned than how many facts we can memorize. He gives honest real life advice that is actually helpful to advancing in the field and is super funny too! Take a class with John if you get the chance.

Comment:

John is a great teacher & he really knows his stuff. This class isn't hard if you understand grammar and how to write complete sentences. I felt like I really improved as a writer during the quarter and his feedback is extremely helpful. I even changed my major to journalism. He is a bit gruff at times, but honestly super nice.

John's the best. He's the kind of prof where he cares more about what you actually learn than grading. He's also very sly and funny, and his classes are entertaining for the most part. He's very experienced and smart, so he's a great resource too for help in the field. Take a class with him!

John is awesome! I learned so much in feature writing, he WILL critique your writing big time but I left the class a much better writer than I entered it. Class is pretty easy and often ends early. Overall class time/lectures (which I usually find unbearable) wasn't bad at all.

Harris will really push you to be the best possible writer you can be, but he can be pretty harsh while doing so. Workload is easy, but he could be clearer with expectations. He'll change deadlines according to class need. You'll be a lot better at the end of his class, but your ego will take a few hits.

A fun, educational class. I really enjoyed it. Harris is really nice, a good professor. The lectures were great and so was the text! Tests are so easy, which makes it a nice stress-free class where you are still learning.

Comment:

Harris is a wonderful, wonderful man. Take newswriting with him. He's laid back and easy to get along with and has a very dry sense of humor. I really looked forward to going to every single class because it was always a good time. A pretty easy class if grammar and punctuation are something you're relatively good at.

This class is super interesting! Makes you realize how important the press is in our society. I wasn't even interested in the topic of subject but came away with a great appreciation of the material and journalism. This is a super easy class, two easy tests as long as you show up to class. He said he wished could grade people on attendance.

Harris is slyly funny. I learned a lot about writing from him! I found the profile assignment really intimidating at first, but I ended up loving it! I took my profile to office hours to ask one question about it and he offered to edit my paper. Liked him a lot!

John is a GREAT professor. 207 with him was fun, straight forward, and super interesting. Make sure you don't skip any classes, and listen to what he says (he drops a lot of hints about what will be on quizzes etc). Take your final assignment to him and he will edit it for you! Awesome guy.

Comment:

Newswriting changed the way I look at writing. There isn't too much homework and it is a really fun class. If you go to office hours he will edit your final writing assignment. I would get the most recent version of the AP Style Guide though because things change from year to year.

Comment:

Very serious about photojournalism, but helpful when asked questions. Most of his criticism was to crop photographs. Overall though, he's a good professor! We also had some GREAT guest speakers that came in and talked with us! I'd recommend him and this course for anyone interested in Photojournalism, it definitely will help!
