Comment:

When i took his class most recently since he moved to NC, he was very condescending towards students when they would ask a question. He was also not willing to work with students who were going through a tough patch and made the classes miserable.

Comment:

I like Berland, hes not sassy, he gets down to business, and he doesn't talk about himself, if anything he'll give you math history which is interesting. However, he expects you to remember way to much. He'll give you a 40 page packet and expect you to remember every part. Hes good but I had to drop, hes also gives tough test and harshly grades it.

Comment:

It all depends on you. I hate math, but because Im dedicated I have a 97% in Mth 55. You can retake the exam if lower than 70%, hw and quizzes is done on mymathlab which is better than paper cause if u need help you'll get it, if your wrong it'll let u know. He won't judge you for not knowing something, he'll take the time to show you.

Not very organized. Gives homework packets with worksheets and book work. Cancels class and expects you to still know the material. Grade is mostly determined by tests.

Comment:

Berland's MTH37 class prepares you well for MTH20 and even some of MTH2. HW is 3-4 medium length assignments, due once a week. Gives 7 short exams that are all about 8 questions long and Final exam is 12 Trig questions. Really easy to keep up and understand all material. Definitely recommend his class to everyone, regardless of math experience.

Comment:

One of the best math teachers at Chabot! He cares about his students and is always willing to help. He does review days before each test to make sure all required material is understood by everyone! The only way to fail his class is to not put in the effort, study hard and show up to class!

To say the least, math hasn't ever been my forte. But Mr. Berland is amazing, if you need it he's more than willing to help you out during office hours and he isn't condescending about it. His passion for math shines through too, and it's sweet to see how much he loves it even if you don't share the interest. Highly recommend.

Best math teacher I've ever had. Very clear. Really makes it so you can understand it thoroughly. Very helpful and pretty funny. He makes it really easy to pass. Tests were clear and simple. He doesn't give a bunch of bs information only what you need to know. Excellent, excellent teacher.

Mr. Berland is by far the best math professor I have ever had in my life. He came out of retirement to continue teaching, which says a lot about his passion for math. His grading criteria is clear. His lectures are extremely thorough. He truly cares about his students and is ALWAYS willing to help. Definitely recommend!!!

Mr. Berland has to be among the finest professors offered at Chabot College. He explains the material in a lucid, coherent manner that allows anyone with the determination to succeed, prevail. I feel ready for Calculus!

Prof Berland is really trying to prepare you for future courses, he explains what material is important to know and remember. He is always in a good mood and is obviously very passionate about math. Try not to miss lecture, he gives really detailed lectures that will make the tests easier if you attend. Testsquizzes are not difficult at all.

Joe is such a great teacher. I've taken Math 55 before, and did not understand the material. But with Joe I understand EVERYTHING. He gets straight to the point, and makes math easy. I definitely recommend taking his class. He also does not make you purchase the text book assignments are posted on MyMathLab.

Professor Berland is the best professors at Chabot. His lectures are very clear and easy to follow. You can tell that he loves teaching and he does it with a smile. Take advantage of his office hours he appreciates that. A few of us were repeating this class and received A's & B's. He does great reviews for exams. Wish he taught other classes.

TAKE HIM!!!!! I took math 55 with three different professor and he's the best one. He won't overwhelm you with HW Test are not hard. Problems done in class are what his tests are based off of. He's gives partial credit on his tests which really helps. Book is not required. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND PASS MATH 55 WITH BERLAND.

He's very clear with the material. .5 tests total. U don't need to buy the book, but u do need to purchase an online account to a website that's where you do your HW and quizzes . Do the HW, its' not much, take the practice quizzes numerous times because they're exactly like the tests and ur guaranteed an A

Very easy professor, all you need to do is study enough so you can obtain an A or B grade. The reason I got a C is because I slacked off the last two tests. If i studied, i would've gotten an A but i'm happy with a C.

best math teacher ever! i hate math, i failed my math class twice with other profs but with berland it all makes sense,all you have to do is come to class everyday and the online test are the same as the one on the actual test no surprises he cares about his students and is willing to help anyone, and he's funny. highly suggest taking this prof.

Requires textbook because it has the homework problems. You can checkout the textbook from the library since they have it there. He teaches the problems differently from the book SOMETIMES which means attendance is mandatory if you want that A! All you do is take notes, do the homework and then prepare for the test. Easy class if you like math.
