Comment:
People should have comments taken down for using inappropriate language verging on libel. This forum should be used in a mature fashion. Dr. Childers is actually a big teddy bear under the sometimes tough-guy exterior. He comes from a working-class background and has worked really really hard. As a result, he doesn't like slackers. RECOMMENDED!

Took his Bronte class, I went to maybe 5 classes total so I sacrificed the readingg quiz grade portion (25%). However, his exams are pretty easy and his papers are easy to do well on if you have a general idea of the themes and ideas he discusses. MASSIVE amount of reading. Don't take him if you want an easy grade.

Great lectures! Interesting ideas and he's funny to boot. Fair grader. Go to his classes - even though attendance is not taken, the lectures will help a LOT with papers, midterm and final!

I took every class that Professor Childers taught during my time at UCR (C/O 2004). I just wanted to let any future students know that he was the best professor I ever had. I learned so much from this man and I enjoyed his classes tremendously. I am now a high school English teacher and have found many of his methods and much of his information

He gives a ridiculous amount of reading and grades hard, but he is an ok guy. Maybe a little egotistical, but nice.

A+! Childers is interesting & funny. Doesn't spoon-feed, but leads/guides discussions of excellent, thought-provoking quality. Lectures are fast & info-packed, quizzes are easy (if you read the material), exams are fair & reasonable. Paper is standard for type of class, as is reading load. Students learn to think, reason & analyze. Great Professor!

Great proffessor. Discussion in class was the only reason I woke up at freaking 6am to get to Riverside in the morning. And anyone who can make me understand structuralism and other equally mind-boggling literary theories deserves definite kudos.

he is brilliant (world-renown marxist theorist), entertaining, hilarious. he will open up new modes of thinking on literary theory you never thought possible. well worth the overpriced tuition the uc system charges just to talk to this man.

The downside is that he was a hard grader. But the good thing was that he asks challenging questions that kept you molding smarter, clearer, and better answers. Btw, he does not dress rich or stylishly.

Claimed to base thirty percent of grade on participation, but if you wrote well, he cut you some slack in that area. Compared Victorian era carriages to types of cars, which was one of several similes that helped me gain a better understanding of the literature. Looks like Morrissey.

I took his class back in 2000 or so. Wow. What a hottie. He wasn't always helpful, but his insight and lectures were ALWAYS interesting. And I actually ended up learning a lot about myself in the class. His looks are kinda distracting, though.
