I have always been on the lenient side when it comes to teachers, but when it comes to this professor I will have to join in and say she has excessive expectations. She grades very rigorously, she acts as if this is the only class you are taking, and she has limited available office hours too. If you're not an English major good luck!

Do not take this class. midterm was for us to read 25 poems and memorize every line and then she picked a various line and made us identify who wrote the poem. Hardest thing ever when there are about 300 hundreds you have in your head. She grades really tough on essays. There is no homework. but outlines and essay drafts are due throughout.

Total waste of a semester. She grades everything by HER standard so expect to forget all you ever learned. She is extremely unclear and disorganized. Rude when approached by students. Grades harshly and tests are a joke and in no way show that you understand the materials it is merely a lotto card. She is very passively aggressive, JUST AVOID HER..

This teacher was very unclear on her expectations for all of the assignments. Her essays were confusing and if your schedule conflicts with her one office hour, then good luck getting help. I have always thrived in English and in this class i am struggling to get a C grade.

USE THE WRITING CENTER! Have your papers gone over at least twice before handing them in and you should be fine. Her explanations on assignments could be more clear but if you ask questions and show her your drafts before handing them in. She is very sweet and puts forth a great deal of effort for her students.

I really enjoyed this class. She expects a lot from her students but that's normal in college. She is very helpful if you take the time to visit her during office hours and actually take the time to write the drafts of your essays and get the required editing from the writing center.

Quite demanding and unfortunately bland. Very knowledgeable, but lacking connection with students in class. Definitely have had worse classes though.

I thought she was a great teacher. One of the nicest teachers I've had. BUT class is NOT easy. But if you do all your homework and attend the class you'll get full credit. The essays she's really tough on. Even with getting them edited by other teacher still never received a grade higher than a C. If you ask for help shes more than willing to help

We read Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, which is a really good book, but she also made us read a ton of boring essays that she quizzed us on. If you go to her office, you can get As on her essays but the topics are painfully boring. English can be so enlivening but I just found it really flat in her class.

I do NOT like English. I liked Julie because even though her class wasn't very easy, it was much easier to get through because many of her topics were interesting. We only read one book and only did five essays.

Granted there must be something in all these ratings, I think she's a good teacher. She gives out detailed assignments, lets you rewrite papers; papers not hard once you know what she's looking for (support thesis, follow assignment). Interesting readings. I've found her helpful and nice, not at all mean. I suggest you at least give her a try.

i took this class because I needed prep. for 1A. She was the meanest teacher that I ever had. Didn't teach us to write, when you asked question she ignored, when asked again, screamed "WHAT?" One of my essays was reviewed by a professor in the writing lab. Still got a C- on it. Her picture is all telling: nasty, unhelpful, and a strange odor.

Since i had gotten into 302, i didnt know ANYTHING about writing essays. we had tests everyday which were short essays. she never tought us how to write an essay. it was ridiculous. i missed 3 classes because i was sick so i emailed her and she pretty much said to not come back because 'theres no way i will pass' and to 'have a nice year' DONT TAKE

This woman is awful. Her teaching is the complete opposite of what other English professors expected in past classes. She has always a mean looking appearance and has intense body odor that makes it difficult to work next to her. I did all of my work, studied for the exams, had my papers reviewed at Sonoma State and got a C- . . . BEWARE

She is useless during class. she is unhelpful, refused to answer my questions multiple times. The tests were hard but fair if you read the books. Essays will destroy you unless they're perfect. DO NOT TAKE

Julie is very nice and is pretty helpful, and understanding. She is extremely picky about her essays, but willing to go over them with you during her office hours! Just do ALL the work and you will get a good grade. I recommend her.
