The easiest class I have taken at UGA. The material is interesting. He give quizzes at the end of class throughout the semester, but the quizzes are open notes and the tests are almost completely multiple choice. Easy A course

Espelie is solid at teaching beginner entomology courses, but doesn't keep up with taxonomic info so you might have to unlearn some of the order names he proposes if you're going for an ento degree.

Comment:

Tons and tons of memorization. Definitely not as easy of a class as everyone makes it out to be. With that being said it's still doable if you put in the time. Don't expect this to be a blow off class because you will be surprised.

I took this class as an easy elective, and the open note quizzes every week are really easy as long as you take notes. however, this class is straight memorization and if you're not good at that I would NOT recommend taking it. I am not the best with memorizing and had a hard time on exams, have to work for the A.

SUCH AN INTERESTING CLASS. Espelie keeps your attention for the entire class and lets you out early. Quizzes are open note and tests are pretty easy if you study.

The funniest old man at UGA. Wears a bug shirt every day to class that correlates to whichever bug you are learning about. Tells you exactly what will be on every single test. Quizzes are open note so if you just show up to class you will end up with an A. Only problem is that he uses technology from about a century ago that rarely works.

Loved this class! We would watch video clips, some were relevant to the insects we were learning, and others because they were funny. I even took notes on Jurassic park. Fair warning there are about 10 pop quizzes, but they're easy if you paid attention to the material taught that day. Also, class usually got out early.

Dr. Espelie is such an interesting guy and an entertaining lecturer. He doesn't use ELC so you must go to class to take notes. He does pop quizzes as a form of random attendance checks. If you're there, you'll get a 100 guaranteed. Tests can be a little trickier, but they're straight from the notes. Take this class!

Espelie was one of the best professors I have ever had!! He made class so interesting and was definitely willing to help you if you had any questions. He wore the most adorable bug shirts every single day and reminds me of an adorable grandpa! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Easy class, if you go. Basically tells you what will be on the test, will tell you what's important and to star it. Tons of quizzes but they're easy. He also doesn't count a couple just in case you miss one or mess up. I got a head injury that caused my learning to slow and he was more than willing to help and work with me! Definitely recommed!!

This seminar is very beneficial if you are going into any healthcare field or pursuing a science based career. Dr. Espelie organized the seminars very well and is always there to advise you or answer any questions. It's a great 1 credit hour break from the traditional lecture classes.

Dr. Espelie is great. You know what to expect every class- notes via projector, short video clips, and easy 5-question quizzes (several throughout semester) mostly to check for attendance. Tests are very specific but not impossible. Keep up with notes and star things when he says to- they will be on the tests.

Favorite professor so far! Loved that he was so passionate about teaching and is always available for help. he wants to see you succeed! There are pop up quizzes and two are dropped and the tests were not easy by any means, but if you studied you could easily make an A. You will learn a lot!

Very easy class, and very interesting as well. Espelie is a great professor, really funny guy. You basically watch tons of videos, take notes that he puts up on PowerPoint, and pay attention when he tells you that something frequently shows up on quizzes and exams. Attendance isn't mandatory, but he gives out open note pop quizzes.

AWESOME teacher. Gives easy notes on overhead, and you can also purchase them. Tells you what to expect on the test. Uses videos to explain notes better. I would take him again in a heartbeat. Laid back sense of humor. TAKE HIM!

Great class! I recommend everyone to take this class! I loved his teaching methods and he always kept the class involved and awake!! Not hard at all to receive an A in this class, take it!!
