Pretty solid choice and teaches the material well. Cares about his students and gives good feedback. There will be group projects after each lecture and you are assigned a group.

This class was a bit tough. Not hard but definitely not easy. Those in class group assignments will definitely save your grade if you struggle during the exams. The exams are tough. Everything discussed in the lecture, in the book, and on the slides is fair game (referring to what could be on the exams). 3 exams only. No homework.

Dr. Silva is a great professor and probably one of my favorites. His grading is heavily based on the group projects (40%) which are super easy, but you have to come to class every day to do them. The textbook is super helpful for exams and review his PP's before exams. Also beware that he doesn't work on the +/- scale, so an 86 in his class is a B.

Silva is a great professor. The material is a bit dry but he does his best with it. The group assignments are in class only which eliminates much of the annoying parts of group work and it really helps to drive home the material. I would take any MIS course he taught.

This man is awesome. He is the absolute sweetest. If you have problems, TALK TO HIM! Tests are tough but fair and very straight forward. Read the book, they are based off of the book. Daily participation grades. Only 3 dropped. He curves if he likes the class. Study and you'll do great!

ugh... let me just say this. If you are not MIS major, do not take this class. PLEASE. Lecture is really boring and group assignment is kind of annoying. For me, tests are really hard and because of this class my gpa will drop down. If you're not MIS major, Take other electives fellow Bauer students. MIS majors, good luck with this course. I'm out.

Seriously one of the best professors I have taken. He has 3 tests and group assignments for every class. The tests come from his powerpoints so just really study that and you should be fine.

Fairly straightforward expectations and class. There are not surprises and the grading is fair. The only thing you should be cautious of is your effort. Most of the class studies hard for the first and second test, but not the third. Don't make the mistake of loosing your interest at the end of class; it will burn your grade.

This class is very engaging in the sense as there is mandatory participation enforced by the grading scale (10% of final grade). You are randomly selected into a group of 5-6 people and are expected to work with these people on group assignments (45% of final grade) and presentations (total of 6). 3 exams (45% of final grade). Professor is awesome

Great professor! Very helpful and enjoys teaching the subject even though the subject is boring. Most of your grade comes from daily group work. Exams can be tricky must read from textbook and study slides to get an A; if you study both slides and textbook you should get an A. Group work is easy and is due at the end of class.

Very helpful professor. Exams are tricky but come straight from the book. BOOK & ATTENDENCE IS MANDATORY. Fairly easy group assignments every class. 3 tests not comprehensive. Gives a good curve if the class does bad. Answers every question you ask him.

Silva is a funny man and a bit quirky. His class is boring and most people spend more time on Facebook than actually paying attention. Tests started to get tougher as the course progressed because everyone was sharing cheat sheets. If you have to take this class, take it but otherwise avoid. Easy B, very difficult to get an A.

He's a nice guy but this class was definitely a lot harder than I expected it to be. Should have been an easy A but I struggled for a B. If you're not an MIS major, take something else for your electives.

Wow, night and day difference from Cooper. Silva actually cares about teaching the material. Walks around and helps you to understand what is going on. Very straight forward and to the point. Learned more the first week with Silva than the whole semester with Cooper.

Took him for Java over the summer. Thought it was gonna be hard because of all the people in my class that was taking it for the second time but Dr Silva made it easy. Group exercises everyday was almost half of the overall grade. 3 tests that count evenly. If you had a hard time in TP1 then I recommend taking Java with Silva over Cooper.
