A lot of people hate this professor, but I really didn't mind him that much. The only really frustrating thing was the fact that a lot of his content was about the power of creativity and teamwork, which no one cared about at all. It's also true that he never gives out 100%s, but if you put the effort in, you can scrape up a good enough grade.

Do. Not. Take. Unless you really want to major in sustainability. His IDS class is level 2000 but has the work load and difficulty of a level 4000 class. His grading rubrics are extremely complex and states clearly he won't deal with stupid questions. His TA's also tell students they're instructed not to give out A's even if the work deserves it.

My last class with Thiele, and thank god. Terrible class, unclear grading criteria, learned nothing.

Thiele is an amazing man but too tough as a professor. I am pretty sure only one student in my class came out with an A. He irrationally grades and fails you all semester to make you keep trying. Doing extra, optional, out-of-class assignments will not boost your grade, just waste time. Impossible to win, impossible to please, highly stressful.

I really enjoyed this class. Opened my eyes to many different topics and group projects are pretty cool. Confirmed me being a sustainability major.

The class isn't technically mandatory but is set up to make you come to class (group projects, reflection papers on specific lectures). I was discouraged by some of the reviews on here, but his class really isn't that bad and he actually is a really nice guy, he just doesn't necessarily show how much he cares.

This class is notorious for discouraging people from the sustainability major. Thiele is pretentious and the TA's are incredibly harsh graders. The group projects required you to make a video which was graded really harshly. Don't take this class unless it's required, and don't base your opinion of sustainability major off of it.

Like others have said, this is the worst professor at UF. He is so arrogant that he won't even show up to meetings you have scheduled with him. Good luck if you take this class. The only reason he is still a professor is because for some reason his classes aren't required to get evaluated by students at UF.

This class was OK. About half of it is his lectures and the other half is guest speakers. His lectures are very wordy, but overall he is a pretty nice guy. The biggest thing is to the read the syllabus/instructions and don't ask questions he clearly answered. He hate that. The downside is an A is a 95%, so you can't slack off at all.

Most boring course ever. Professor is rude, TAs are rude. I'm switching my major to Biology because I cannot take another class with Professor Thiele.

Worst professor ever. If you can avoid this class, don't take it. Group work is outrageous. Essay due each week for only 1 point. This class was a nightmare.

Terrible class, terrible professor. I'm afraid to even go to Thiele's office because he is so rude. Other students have switched their majors because they can't deal with him. Lectures make no sense and he intentionally doesn't give A's (he even says so in the beginning of the year). Should be inspiring students but instead is deflating them.

Leslie is the worst professor I have ever had, and I'm a senior. I can't stress enough how arrogant and rude this man is. Lectures are almost all quotes of famous scientists and nothing else. He essentially teaches nothing. Very rude if you try to visit him during his office hours. Don't take his course if you can avoid it!!

I loved Dr. Thiele, I took a handful of his classes. He's a good mentor and makes himself available outside the classroom. I'd highly recommend him to anyone interested in sustainability.

Get ready to do group work. Get ready to read -- a lot. The concepts were interesting, but sustainability can only get so interesting. The guest lecturers were good (mainly because we didn't have to listen to Thiele talk). Lots of intricacy in the group projects. Final exam is based off the readings and his and the guest lectures. Don't do it.

The guest lecturers were pretty interesting, but the team projects kill your grade if your group doesn't care about the class (since your grade depends on it). His lectures were vague and disconnected to what we were "reading" for homework.

Prof. Thiele is a great guy, but I had trouble understanding his first team project's instructions. On that note, a large chunk of your grade will be dependent on others so beware of this fact. The lectures (Guest ones and His) were very interesting. He assigned a lot of reading but one could definitely get by with skimming. All in all, cool class.

I really appreciate Professor Thiele - he's a well thought man with an interesting outlook on sustainability. Classes are challenging & make you think. He is as helpful as you ask him to be. Always available during office hours and is more than happy to help. I took more than one class with him, and I've kept in touch with him after graduation.

very harsh grader, gave out large amount of work even though his class was only 1 credit. I didn't think he graded assignments fairly, hardly anyone received A's. A rather disappointing professor

Horrible class. If you aren't required to take it, DON'T! Thiele is arrogant and standoffish. There is A LOT of work and very little learning.
