I had Dr. Surdyk for two upper division courses and really loved her. I had heard complaints about the principles courses taught by her, but I thought she was great at the higher level. She was challenging because she required us to think beyond basic economic principles and look at real world issues.

Comment:

Teaching style like that of a high school teacher. Homework and quizzes seemed fine and easy to learn from then all of a sudden the exams were nothing at all like what she teached. On many occasions she completely contradicted herself. I honestly don't think she knows that much about macro econ.

She has no structure and her exams are RIDICULOUS! The way she words her questions is what will drop your grade, it has nothing to do with your comprehension of the subject material.

After taking Micro with Doug Downing I thought I understood economics to some degree. Macro with Surdyk taught me otherwise. Econ made sense with Downing, it got confusing with Surdyk. Also, the writing assignments become very repetitive.

Her teaching style is the opposite of Doug Downing. I struggled to learn from her. If you did well in Doug's class, be prepared for a change of pace!
