Martina was a fantastic prof. She made her points clear, and gave students every option they had to ask questions to clarify anything. She truly cares about her students' well-being and success. The assignments were tough, but very fairly graded. Midterm was HARD and the average was very low. She emphasized that the final would not be as difficult

Martina is a brilliant woman with a true passion for her work. It's a hard class, and you need to work outside of class to keep up and do well. Don't expect an easy class, but do expect to come out smarter and more equipped to do syntax in the future. She's got excellent style hotness points!

Martina is a good prof. I did like her method of the "upside down classroom" or whatever where you watch her videos before class to get a grasp of the concept, and then it class she'll elaborate on the topic to try and make it easier to understand. Midterms are easy. No final exam, rather a final project which you do in TUT with a group.

The flipped classroom thing is not really a problem, most classes expect you to read from a textbook on your own time and LING100 is no different. The videos are just a supplement to the reading. She's pretty average when it comes to profs. Her tests are a walk in the park.

I hated this class. Martina uses a "flipped classroom" which is completely non-effective. She expected you to watch half hour videos of her speaking, outside of class time, and those videos were barely relevant. If you have a good TA you will do well. What you learn is really broad, but exams are very specific and are not related to what you learn.

Sh's a great lady, super nice, really cares about everyone doing well. Class was entertaining - flipped lecture model but so long as you read the text before midterms and attend class, you don't really need to look at the online material to do well. No exam but a group project...I'd have rather written an exam. Material is easy to understand.

Comment:
Martina is a highly disorganized professor. The method used (upside class or whatever) was horrible. It requires you to take time outside of class and watch lecture videos on your own and then come to the actual lecture. This class was selfish, it doesn't realize that students have others courses to keep up with as well.

I feel that Professor Wiltschko should consider the opinions of her students when planning the structure of her lectures in the future, instead of defending it in class. I speak for many students when I say that we would have all benefited more if a traditional method was used in lectures.

I really enjoyed the flipped classroom! The content is not dense and easy to absorb. Read the book, watch her videos, attend lectures and tutorials, and you will learn much more than you think. The lectures are NOT pointless! Do not close your mind off from a world of learning! You can do well if you care enough :) She and the TAs were helpful! #eh

She is really bad. The class is very confusing... If you think you will learn something about languages of the world it's not the class for you. Never take it as an elective.

Why bother having classes? I'm paying her money to tell me to read my textbook and watch youtube videos. The in class times are nearly useless. They're entertaining enough, but not much is taught. I really have to wonder why she feels its alright to say: "Just ensure you understand it all before class, then I'll maybe talk about a little bit of it"

Martina was an awesome prof! She is very engaging and kept class always interesting. I thought that the "flipped classroom" was a really good idea. Those who hated her are the ones who didn't put full effort into this course, because it's an "easy A". If you do what's expected of you (which is to watch and read short 10pgchapters) You will do good!

Martina is a conscientious and helpful professor. I feel that she truly cares for her students. This is evident through her invitations to her office hours and her ideology that student grades shouldn't be scaled just because they are high. I also enjoyed the flipped-classroom teaching style. I recommend taking LING 100 with Martina.

A very engaging prof. However, I believe I was subject to the transition period between traditional lectures and her "flipped classroom" which in my opinion was not ready to be rolled out. This made exams and assignments very confusing.

Martina is really nice as a person, but the flipped classroom style is just not for me. I would rather have had a lecture- the material we were expected to know wasn't clear, and I learned more from tutorials than from lectures.

Comment:
DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE. I don't usually complain about profs but this is by far the worst lecturer ever. Extremely unclear with materials and assignments. TA's were even worse, unfair in marking assignments and misled me on the midterm. Completely Ridiculous. Take Ling 101 with Burton if you want a GPA booster, I got a 94% in that course.
