Comment:
Dr. Blake-Jones class has inspired me to pursue my doctorate degree in Literacy Education. This course was truly one of the best courses I took at The College. Dr. Jones will assign some intensive reading assignments, but it is well worth it when it comes to understanding the importance of language and literacy. I recommend this class for anyone!

Dr. Jones was wonderful. She is retiring this year. She made the class so interesting and we were able to see everything discussed in class out in the field. She gives hard assignments, but if you study the materials she gives, you will excel. Wonderful teacher, wonderful person.

Mary Blake is a difficult professor, but worth it. She certainly has her own opinions, but I learned SO much in this class that I know I will use as a future teacher. I recommend taking this course if you care about your future as a teacher.

Surprisingly lenient grader. Useful information at the beginning but the second half of the semester is just her droning on forever. Talks over students and argues with them just to repeat what they just said. I try not to say anything in that class if I can help it.

Great class atmosphere. Really learnt a lot in this class. The course was not too difficult, but it was very work-intensive (lots and lots of reading). Dr. Blake-Jones is very approachable and clearly very interested in the literacy development of children. Truly enjoyed and got a lot out of this class!

often talks over students and interrupts after asking for opinions. When asked to clarify issues she talks around the issue but does not answer the question asked. Overall not my favorite professor.

At first she seems like she is going to be the hardest teacher you have ever had, but then the class gets started and you realize that the class isn't actually going to be that bad. She lets you use your book on the tests. She expects you to do the readings she assigns also.

I was intimidated by her at first and thought she would be mean but in the end her class was my favorite. SO sweet, she brings in books to read to the class certain days for fun. She is extremely smart and has a good sense of humor. Loved her and am sad I no longer have her.

I thought she was extremely rude when i frist met her. however, she turned out to be one of the best professors i've had in the education department so far. She is very smart, what she says is golden! she will teach you a lot, grades fair, but has a tone of reading guides! i'd still recommend her though i've learned a lot from her!

i loved this class and this teacher. there is a lot of reading and writing required of the class, but she grades fairly easy, just come to class, participate and do the work and you'll get an A

She is tough/but you will learn alot. VERY GOOD STUFF IF YOU WANT TO PASS THE PRAXIS. Just breeze thru the numerous article readings. Focus on textbook & lecture for test. Very organized & tries to keep it interesting. Favorites? Not really, its all in your perspective.

Grades very leniently considering she used to be an editor. Class is kind of boring, but tests are fairly easy because you're allowed to choose your questions and use your book.

like she says on her syllabus, you need to have intellectual curiosity, but you should have that anyway. she tells you when you have to turn in a reading response (very easy), the rest you can skim over, not bad. very good class, very good professor

I really enjoyed this class. You have to do a crap load of reading. It's the first class I actually did the reading in, and I learned so much. Most of class is discussion and tests are essay, but she gives you an outline of what will be on them, plus you get to choose what question you want to answer

I have to say that she does have favorites but it is not as prevelant as some people say. She is very hard at grading but basically if you MEMORIZE the information and can write about it you will do fine. And yes..lots of reading, but only collects some of the papers on it. Mainly, just do the work, say some regurgitated info, and you will be fine.

She's kinda hard, and it can be kinda scary at first. But she doesn't really have favorites. I bet all the people who put that about her just suffer from sour grapes, cause they didn't EARN an A in her class. And you do have to do the work to get an A in her class. But if you do it, then you do well. If you are lazy, and thought that education would be an easy major to just float on by with, then you won't like her. But then again, like the person before me said, then maybe you shouldn't be in edu.

She's tough - no denying that. But she isn't boring, and she's very fair. It won't be an easy A class, but that means you're actually LEARNING something. And, for those of us in the education field, learning is way more important than an easy A. . . right? (If you disagree, you are in the WRONG field of study.)
