TOOK HIM 3 SEMESTERS! I hate theology, not religious, and Barnes was my favorite at Marquette. He is relateable, understandable, and just wants you to use whatever faith or spirituality you have to guide you in hopes of being a better person. Very approachable. If you legitimately want to learn, he is very easy. Lots of homework, do it with buddy.

By far my favorite class I've taken at Marquette. The readings are never boring, and you even get to read a graphic novel for an assignment. There are no quizzes, and the midterm and final are mostly diagrams. Plus Dr. Barnes is a fascinating guy who has a lot of funny stories to share, DEFINITELY take this class in your time at Marquette.

Probably the worst class and professor I've had at MU so far. SO unclear about what to study for tests, likes to hear himself talk, lectures don't have ANYTHING to do with readings, and he's overall very unclear and confusing. This class is one of my general credits but i would NOT RECOMMEND taking Barnes for a professor.

Dr. Barnes's class was strange. Most of his lectures were oddly off-topic, and sometimes I was left sitting in class why we were talking about romantic comedies when we just read about Stalin massacring, like, 15 million people. Felt like the class was a lot of work for a theo class. Not sure if I would take again.

Pretty interesting teacher, but loves to hear himself talk. Most of his lectures have nothing to do with what you read in class

2nd class Ive taken with Barnes, and for a reason. My fav teacher at MU BY FAR! He is reasonable and gives meaning to what his lessons are by using a lot of life examples-which makes the class more relatable and entertaining. A MUST TAKE in my opinion.Tests will be easy if you attend class. There is a worksheet for every class but not difficult.

Dr. Barnes is awesome. He is a really good teacher and he has lots of opportunities to boost your grade. Tests are hard, but participation and the worksheets he gives out really help your grade. I thought I did terrible on the final, but I got an A in the class, so the worksheets are extremely important.

Dr. Barnes is an intelligent, witty guy that always makes class entertaining. However, his class involves A LOT of reading and daily worksheets that can be challenging, but can help your grade. Tests are hard. Additionally, he assumes you've had religious secondary education prior - so if you haven't, concepts are tough.

Dr. Barnes is one of the best professors I've had at Marquette thus far. Class was always entertaining as he is extremely funny and weird (in a good way!) Wkshts based on readings were due every class, which take a while to complete but help your grade a lot and only 2 tests for the semester. Highly recommend his class!

Best teacher! Class was always funny I never wanted to miss. His worksheets for homework seemed pointless, but I honestly learned more from his class then any other class at Marquette. I had him for theology, good and evil. TAKE IT I didnt even feel like a theology class!

Barnes is a great teacher. I had him for Theology 1 and at first I was really upset with how boring the homework was. But, what I've realized after the class is that his in depth study of the Old Testament made me SUCH a better Catholic and much better educated in Theology. He is funny and interesting and gives Extra Credit...take his class.

this is a good teacher, just that he gives alot of use less info that dosent help. the worksheets are easy (in somecases), he only talkes about the Old testament, and will make hard midterms that you should study for. recomended if you dont have ADD extra credits are the best thing about this teacher
