Comment:
Harder class than chemistry. The assignments were WAY harder than what was discussed in the online lecture material - I always had to do outside research and rely on lots of hand-holding from the assistants' online office hours. This class gave me weekly stomach aches, and I'm a 4.0 student! Assignments are insanely hard.

Professor does not give feedback on labs, is not present in the online class discussions. When responding to private questions via message, it seems as though he doesn't understand CS3B. This prof is not qualified to teach INTERMEDIATE python. -Foothill, listen to the students ,please structure the Python series for success, it's about time.

this class was pretty tough for me because I had a heavy workload in addition to this course at the time, so if you're taking this class make sure you have time to dedicate to it. however, there's a pretty large curve and I would say he grades fairly.

Don't take this if you can't self learn or have good studying strategies. I came in with 0 experience in Python, and I found the class to be easy as long as you read the module and dissect EVERY code to understand the purpose of every line. Labs reflect what's taught in the module. It's not hard, just takes a different style of thinking

Python-beginner/no prereq. Heavily teacher-centered (V. student-centered). He lectures throughout the class. ZERO in-class exercises. First 3 labs are easy, the rest get discouragingly hard. Murphy makes Python seem very hard. 1/2 class vanished after a month. As an Asst Prof, I can tell dept fails to train most instructors on lesson planning.

Enjoyed every minute of this class; I learned so much! Prof very enthusiastic, encourages q's after+during class. Yes a lot of hw (labs mostly) but really helps clarify the material esp. if you get TA help. Highlight: class includes option of 4 days a week with (excellent) TAs+access to real routers/switches! Attend in person to get the most value.

Online Linux Course taken. Lots of lecture material to digest in a week. Quizzes have a LOT of material to answer and try, take 1-3 hours to complete. Exams are not hard, open textbook, materials, and lectures are allowed on exam. Projects are easy and well explained.

An excellent teacher! Hes extremely knowledgeable about networking. The class is 4 hours, but he made the topic so interesting that I never got bored. He added tons of fascinating insight and real-world experiences for each Cisco NetAcad chapter! It's sad that so many students skipped his valuable lectures. Be prepared to spend hours on the labs.

Taken him for both CS50A and CS50B on consecutive quarters. Class is once a week, 4 hours long, and he has the ability to speak for that long. Lectures are the pre-made Cisco lectures or uses his own which have 100+ slides. As long as you do all the out-of-class work, you're sure to pass. No need to go to lecture except for Day 1 and the Final.

This guy is awesome, since he has much knowledge not only about networks, but the industry as well. He knows what is going on currently and involves that into his classes. He is helpful, clear, gives good grades and sometimes even funny. I really enjoyed his class and can recommend it to everyone, who is interested in networks.

It's hard to tell if he doesn't care or if he's simply inept. Either way the fact remains that the class is very poorly organized. Lectures are of no help and he's constantly getting confused. Policy changes every week. He never responds on the discussion forum. He emailed us 4 hours before the midterm to say we could bring a cheat sheet!

Mike Murphy is teaching at foothill college just for money, he's very impatient and even reluctant to answer questions from students. All he cares is the number of students enrolled in his class because he's income is related to that. Once students enroll in his class, he doesn't care about you at all. He's the worst teacher I've ever seen !

Mike is a great instructor! He is very knowledgeable about IT, in general. He has a wealth of FYI type history on the subject as well and brings his past experiences to the class. Ask questions and participate in class discussions! Very approachable. Do the labs and read the book/class resources and you should have no problem making an A here.

He picks quiz questions out of a test bank without actually reading them to make sure we've already covered the material. He doesn't communicate in a timely manner (or at all). He is relying on old VMware knowledge and reading the slides during class. The only reason to take this class is so that you're eligible to take the VMware exam.

He does not answer emails or messages sent on Etudes after welcome to class post no other communication from him at all until week before final. This is the only teacher at the school that teaches the classes you need to get your CCNA so you are stuck with him. Thank goodness you can google the questions and get get help or else you would be lost.

Taking the CNET 54A course, I wasn't quite sure whether Networking was all that interesting. Attending his class changed my mind. He definitely knows what he is doing and is excellent at explaining concepts. Though don't try contacting him through the discussion board, he doesn't check there. Easily one of the best professors I have ever had.

Excellent Instructor :) I've taken all the courses he offers except for the CCNP courses. Definitely take the class room course and not online, you'll learn a lot by attending his classes. Note: He gets a lot of emails and isn't able to respond to everyone, best to talk to him in person. Very knowledgeable on the subject.

If you attend class, do the labs and assignments you will learn networking, get a good grade and enjoy the class. Mike is the most experienced and knowledgible instructor I have ever had. He takes whatever time is required to clarify concepts if you ask questions. A classmate helped me get my current job. He creates is a great learning environment.
