The professor's lectures and courseware are understandable, which is good. However, his homework description is not clear and the marker of the student is difficult. The 20-choice question of the mid-term exam is 100 points, the wrong one is 2.5 points, and then half of the people do not pass. Final exam only cry

Comment:
This professor is really incomprehensible. His lectures are not difficult to understand, but the homework is really disgusting to vomiting blood, and the final exam makes people want to cry. It is not what he said, but a more advanced martyrdom.

Comment:
His exams go above and beyond what he teaches in class and what is on the assignments. Takes marks off your exam for incorrect answers. Blames the class for when the midterm average is below 50%. Assignment instructions can be unclear at times. The only good thins is that the assignments are weighted much heavier than the exams.

Comment:
Ambiguous assignments, with unclear expectations. Negative grading on multiple choice, not very open to new ideas. Archaic sense of "rewarding" students by actually punishing everyone. Assignments were all done in Haskell/Java but the final is expected to be written in C. Nice person, cares about students, but does not admit his own failures.

Comment:
The assignments were mostly trivial so I didn't feel like they prepared me for the exams. By comparison, the midterm and final were very hard. Even though the generous 55% weight on assignments and large midterm curve evened out the marks in the end, my high final mark does not reflect how much I learned from the course (which was very little).

Weighs tests as little as allowed, which is nice, but they were quite difficult. Assignments were usually pretty easy but the tests were a lot more difficult, so it was hard to study properly for tests. A lot of code to be written on the final was unexpected. Nice guy that means well. He was still learning how to teach this class.

Comment:
Jamalis first time teaching 340 was quite a gong show. The assignments were borderline trivial, with a simple 4 line program being worth 2 of the final grade, but the exams were difficult, and the code we had to write on the final was more conceptually difficult that the assignments. That being said, the class was extremely interesting and easy.

He is a good prof. If you ask him a question he will do his best to make you understand. If strange circumstances arise and you'll miss as assignment or two, he is willing to accommodate. All of the relevant info is in the slides and he tries to just explain those slides instead of adding new information in class. Assignments and grading are fair.

So. Aweful. He spends a whole lecture on one or two slides, realizes he's fallen behind 5 minutes before the end of lecture and then zooms through the rest of them! Fortunately everything you need to know is in the slides and in the homework assignments (unless you've never used a computer). I stopped going to class 2 weeks in and still got an A...

Seemed like a good prof. After watching some of the online broadcasts I realized how BORING our class really was. I felt like he explained things the hard way - I was lucky having taking previous CMPT Classes in high school so I had a good grasp on the material. Overall not a horrible prof, but not the best either.

He's easy to understand and all. Tries to be funny with really weird jokes that are just odd. The class is very monotonous. Had a substitute from another class 3/4 way through the term and realized how dull our class normally was. Made it hard to stay awake in his class.

The worst professor I have ever had. He gives extremely hard assignments and is not helpful at all. Doesn't give you any idea what the will be on the midterm or final. Is extremely lazy which was shown by him showing up for the first 10 min. of the final saying "don't ask any questions" then leaving us with the TA.

Extremely hard assignments. Very lazy in making assignment questions. Simply skims through the text and picks a few questions. This class is a HUGE time commitment. He concentrates on irrelevant material.

i don't think he is the worst in comp sci. There are WORST ones trust me..work hard and focus more on the textbook than his lectures (he is very unclear) & practice coding C you will do alright. Finals are hard. If u aren't the kind of person that cheats, his obssession shouldnt bother u at all.

Professor Jamali is an excellent professor. He knows his material quite well and tries to convey that knowledge to his students. His classes are challenging, but you will learn much!!! He is one of few Professors that believes students should "earn" a good mark, so his assignments are challenging
