He is a respected figure in the field, he has years of experience in the field and as a professor alike, etc, etc.. Where does it all go wrong? He couldn't care less about his students. Bottom line: avoid.

Comment:

Very, very dry lectures. He also uses another prof's slides and is all over the place going through them (they aren't even that good). Assignments are poorly written and not very clear. The first assignment is an absolute grind, but the rest are fairly easy. Know the language C or be prepared to learn it quickly.

He is one of my favorite profs. His lectures are so captivating that I'd rather attend his lectures than play video games. But he doesn't provide a lot of help individually, and his assignments are very time consuming and frustrating.

He has a Wikipedia page so he can't be that bad. But he is... He uses other prof's notes and code. He isn't very nice when you ask him questions and he isn't very clear in lectures.

Ok professor. Didn't like to help on assignments too much, even when students were completely stuck. Can have harder midterms. Worked on par with the textbook - sometimes.

Uses other prof's notes, often without even reading them beforehand, leading to him being surprised at some of the slides that he is teaching with. He seems to be a really intelligent guy, but he didn't put much effort into teaching this course. Assignment specs were extremely vague.

never uses his own notes 'cause he doesn't have notes, assignments are not fair, assignments never debugged and if there is a bug in his code it's your responsibility to fix it !!!!

Assignments were very time-consuming. Always start early! TA was awesome and extremely helpful during office hours. Lectures were OK.. if you want to do well, pay 100% attention to his lectures (good luck with that since lectures are quite boring..) Overall, not a bad course, learned lots more from assignments than lectures.

Not very helpful in class or in office hours. Assignments useful for learning material but not well planned/explained. Don't expect to get them back in time for quizzes/tests. Final exam difficult - it was hard to judge what was going to be on it, there was so much material to choose from. Enthuasiastic but did not know all the material well.

Enthusiastic about material, but that's just about it. Don't expect to get all of your assignments back to study from before the midterms or final exams. Assignments were poorly structured and made little sense, like: writing software that's designed to fail. Spent little or no time on complicated material. You're on your own with this guy.

Assignments are moderate and kind of relevant. Midterm is moderate. Final is extreamly easy IF YOU STUDIED RIGHT STUFF. He lacks of enthusiasm for teaching. Don't bother to ask him questions. Very lazy. heavily relies on the text book.

Worst teacher ever (or up there, at least). Doesn't care about students. Hates answering questions. Makes you feel stupid for asking questions. Doesn't give any hints as to what exams are on. Exams don't really cover anything he taught in class (but they're easy if you know computers/math).

Nice guy to talk to in his office hours but dont bother going to class. As for the test summeries, i'll give it to you right now, "Everything we covered in class" you wont get much more out of him.

In five years of courses, his was the absolute worst. Instead of a final exam there was a final assignment, but he and the lab instructor gave completely different assignments. He said he didn't care and they would be marked by whoever was around...
