His idea of teaching is calling students up to the board to solve the problems so the entire class is spent staring at stumped students. Grades way too harshly and is relentless with homework (which is due at each class). Avoid this man like the plague because he will kill your gpa.

This class taught me how to read a math textbook properly. I'm now fascinated by sequences and analysis in general. If you're up for a life changing challenge, go for it. Be ready to study hours each day, use multiple resources, and ask well thought out questions in office hours. I can't believe how low his ratings are. He's great

The course is very fast, you are required to work a lot by yourself. The professor always assigns homework every class and always answer some of the main questions in the beginning of the next class. The exams can be pretty hard, but not impossible. I really enjoyed his class, but the average of the class was not that good.

He's a lot fairer than people seem to think. Yes, the class will be extremely difficult. The tests will be horrifying but that's only since he expects you to know the material cold. If you're up for that, take his classes and you will learn a lot. If not, do your best to avoid them.

Worst teacher I've ever had in my entire life. Drop the class and take it with someone else. If you have him, you won't learn anything and you will probably fail and have to retake it anyway.

He is a horrible teacher. I took AP calculus in high school so i already knew a lot of the material, but when he teaches it, it makes no sense. He takes attendance and it sucks because he is boring and his accent and dull tone makes it hard to pay attention. His tests are hard and have nothing to do with the homework. So sorry if you get him.

He was the worst teacher I have ever had! He is so slow, he never teaches anything, the tests are pulled out of thin air. I recommend transfer to a different school if you end up taking a required class with him.

Very hard class. He knows what he's talking about, but doesn't explain it well at all. Tests are very difficult, and not many people did very well in the class... I wouldn't recommend him unless you're up for a huge challenge...

One would think that a man who graduated from UCLA would be an intelligent, understanding individual. If you take calculus with Michael Range, you will find that he is just the opposite. This is the grade distribution for the first test: In the 80s:2, 70s:2, 60s:4, 50s:3, 40s:7, 30s:7, 29 and below:9 DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH THIS PROFESSOR.

The honors calc courses are probably the hardest courses I've ever taken, but I've learned far more than I ever have in other courses. It's a tough class, with quite a bit of work. The focus is on understanding why calculus works, as opposed to just knowing how to use calculus. Still, I'm glad I took them. Range is a nice guy, and a fair grader.

If you are coming straight from high school calculus-- beware! It is quite an adjustment. He was a funny man who had his own way of doing everything. The phrase, "my way or the highway," should be the class's slogan.

Wow, Range sure is taking a beating here. :) I thought he was very good. Assigns a lot of homework but you don't have to be a math genius to do them (I am not). Lectures nicely flesh out the discussion in the textbook, which is quite terse. I learned a lot and I'm looking forward to 513B in January.

For all incoming freshman honors students this prof is terrible...i took ap calc in high school and got a 4 on the ap and his class has nothing to do with regular calculus...trust me this was my worst class this year even if you really liked calc in high school everyone who takes his class did good in hs and he makes it 10x harder...

Well I took honors calc with him and it was almost unbearably slow... He goes over everything at least 20 times and he is always sure never to miss anything. Like I'm pretty sure he could take a whole class to prove that 1+1=2. And it wouldn't be a stretch of my imagination to see him take a week to prove it... But I think it's pretty easy...
