Comment:
Only take a class with Zurier if you are willing to put in the work. If you are, you will learn an incredible amount because her work is truly her passion. She is one of the most knowledgeable people in the world in her field. If you aren't willing to work, expect a B- or something. Her class is NOT an easy A, but she does offer extra credit.

Comment:
I've taken histart courses before- none have been this ridiculous. Zurier has high standards that only she understands, and expects you to be as knowledgeable on art history as herself. Expect brutally hard exams with no curve and an unnecessary amount of reading and extra work that is always graded harshly. No matter how interested, don't take it.

I took her class because I thought it would be interesting. It really wasn't at all. She has a difficult time figuring out the projector and classroom technology every day and her lectures are dry. Grades forum posts unnecessarily hard. I have little desire to go to art museums anymore because of her.

Challenging and fun, Prof Zurier works hard to see all the students and their specific knowledge to contribute to the class. Gives a lot of responsibility to the student.

Comment:
The material was dry, and her presentation of it was worse. She's one of those profs that thinks this is the only class on your schedule. The term had zero structure to it. Be prepared to leave each class asking yourself "what did I learn today?" the answer will surely be "nothing relevant." Don't take this class unless you absolutely have to.

Not a fan of this professor. Expectations of Art Historical knowledge were not clearly stated at courses' start. She drawls on in lecture, although the material is interesting, she unfortunately kills any interest with her teaching style. Would not take this class again.

Worst professor of my entire career at UM. The subject matter is interesting, but she presents it in a confusing, unorganized way. I've attended every class and still can't see how she organized the class. Focuses completely on memorization instead of themes/movements. Class has a TON of out of classroom requirements and many, many assignments.

The beginning of this class was very interesting. However she is very disorganized in her lectures and power points.Got assignments and exams back longggg after we turned them in. Hardly any feedback. Difficult to grasp unless you are really into art history. Exams are written in blue books and asks us to memorize a ton of paintings.

She is so painfully boring and the discussions she pushes us towards are sometimes not relevant to the overall purpose of the class. The subject was fascinating to me at first but now that I am in the class, it really is a downer. She treats the subject in a very elementary way.

Worst professor i have ever had. She is not helpful when you ask questions at all. She definitely knows what she is talking about, but has no idea how to tell others about it. Terrible people skills. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!

Her interactions with students suggest that she does not have much experience working with humans. Perhaps she would do better with farm animals.

One of the worst teachers I have ever had at U of M. She treats her students like simpletons and doesn't respect anyone's opinion but her own. She assigns a ton of work and is very slow to get it back to students, as well. Unless you absolutely must take a class from - DON'T!

Brilliant woman, knew the topic very well. Lectures were boring as sin though informative. Not the most forgiving grader, though. Definitely worth it if you're interested in Art of the American Century, but it's a definite commitment.

I do not doubt that she has a kind heart with the best intentions, but this class edged on painful. Incredibly interesting subject matter, yet her teaching style sucks the life out the topic. Her standards are high, and although there are no exams, it is just not worth it.

Horrible. LOTS OF READING (that you need to do!) Worst Art History class I've ever taken. Don't think that interesting subject matter can make up for her awful teaching skills.

Prof. Zurier, while boring, is very willing to meet with students outside of class. She makes an effort to be available to students, although her personality is a bit drab. If you're looking for excitement, turn back now, but it's a fairly easy A, and she knows what she's talking about (despite countless errors during lectures).

She reviews soooo much throughout lecture. the first half of the lecture is always a rehash of everything leading up to this one, so all the concepts are completely laid out for you. Only tough part is memorizing the lists, but I guess that depends on who you are.
