No tests just homework. This class is all about excel- the professor is such an intelligent man but just so hard to follow when teaching. There's really no point in going to class. Learned most of the excel functions on my own and just went in to submit the homeworks. He's a pretty laid back professor and fair grader

My problem with the class is if he answers one part of the excel and ask him he would tell you to wait until he answer the whole thing and you wouldn't know how he started it and you get more lost. So many home works every week. He does excel whole lecture and sometimes he just go through steps without explaining. You will need to teach yourself.

Blau is brillant! This class is tough and makes you work but you learn such useful and applicable things! Blau is also lenient on timelines and available often in office hours to help! Definately my favorite and most useful class in my college career.

It's hard, but reasonable. For the first exam, I got 60 something. But ever since that, I worked hard, got full scores for homework and extra credit, recorded the videos for the lecture and watched again and again. At the end, the 10 point extra credit directly toward overall grade is super helpful. Summing up all the efforts, I got an A.

Very knowledgeable but some people aren't meant to teach. Showed up everyday and left the class feeling lost. Take this class if you want to teach yourself basically.

A veteran of the NYSE, he is very experienced. It's a relaxed but timely course; it first requires paying attention in lectures and dissecting the excels and notes, then doing the problems. You have to spend a lot of hours, but when you get it (do not cheat, you wont learn anything), it is VERY awarding; this course is the problem-solving booster.

We were given 3 assignments before the midterm, and then three assignments before the final. All take home. However, they take a lot of time to do unless you get them from chegg which he warns to fail you if you get your answers online. He is sweet and lenient but lost my assignment and expected me to do it again during finals week

Dr. Blau is really passionate about the field of Management Science/Quantitative Operations. He is really caring and is always available during office hours or by phone. There are no in-class exams. However, the take home assignments require you to think and the problems are very time consuming. Prep up on excel skills before starting this class.

This class will never get easy. This class can not be learned through reading, only doing the assignments. Everybody in the class was drained at the end, but we all agreed we learned a lot from this class. The assignments require thinking. The professor is super blunt and very available for help.

This class is insanely hard. The lectures didnt really help much, a lot of it is applying the concepts to the challenging homework and take home midterm and final. While challenging, you're able to collaborate with other students on solutions which helps alot. Grades also never returned so you never know how you are doing in the class till the end

Easily my favorite course/professor taken at Baruch. He made me fascinated with quantitative modeling & analysis, something I might have otherwise found mundane. Everything is done on Excel, but it is extremely challenging work. I didn't strictly need this course in order to graduate, which allowed me to enjoy the learning process more.

I am Stat&Quant major, minors in Math and Finance and now pursuing a Math major from Weissman.I have taken a wide variety of professors and I must say that Blau is one of the most, if not the most, smartest/cleverest man teaching at Baruch. Challenging classes? yes and very but you understand that nothing really valuable in life comes from comfort.

I'm an Operations major and honestly had no idea what was going on in this class... I took 3450 as a substitute for MGT 3500 and I wish I didn't. 95% of the students in this class were Stat majors and Prof Blau said the content is identical to his OPR 9710 grad course. You definitely need past experience in Excel to understand anything he teaches.

The class was tough even though the tests were open book. But he's a nice guy who's willing to help if you're willing to do the work. This class is excel heavy so you need some background in excel but, it's still doable. He's available almost all the time, just call him. He gives extra credit worth up to 10 points on your final grade too. Recommend

Yeah, he doesn't give anything back, but he's a very different breed of professors - would rather have you learn something useful than obsess about grades and have exams that test your memory like most profs at Baruch. Good sense of humor too, and he'll share stories that are good to know even if it doesn't fully have to do with the class. Take!

Nice and funny guy, but you won't get any assignments back, let alone know how you're doing in the course. He likes to mention interesting anecdotes and ways to think through problems, but the other half of class is tediously watching him create something in excel where he makes loads of mistakes or formats things manually....

Professor Blau is amazing! He is very knowledgeable, I went in the class not knowing too much what operations research is about, but left with many great skills you can do with excel and real world problems. Good thing about his homeworks is that he gives extensions. He cares if you know or not. He is the best, but his lectures can be overwhelming
