Blecker has been teaching for a long time and has a unique reputation. I've seen the same answer get an "A" on one test and a "C" on another. He assigns whatever grade he wants to, doesn't even have an answer key. I hope he retires soon so someone who wants to teach can replace him.

Tons of reading but they are worth it. MUST listen and digest what he says in class. His words exam answers. Super smart, no BS. All discussion interesting and helpful to your entire legal career. No textbook, his own materials, read read read read readx100. Must read like 500-1000 pages for his class. Not too bad when you do it little by little.

He's an amazing professor but his exams are very difficult. You need to be someone who reads instructions and processes them quickly. The amount of information he expects you to answer on an exam provides a plethora of opportunity to show what you know - so make sure you budget your time wisely!

He puts together his own class textbook so that you don't have to buy one, that being said - read it! Literally read everything he assigns at least 3 times and then just show up to class. When you take the exams, put down everything you know about the topic. Do not fall behind! Class is tough, but fair - we aren't in college anymore, so grow up!

By far the best class I've had in law school. Blecker is not only clever, but is interested in what you have to say. He makes time for his students and his anecdotes about working with criminals are insightful, he wants to help. Keep up with the readings and show interest and you will be rewarded. Final is tough and midterm counts, but worth it.

He's funny and absolutely brilliant; a rare breed. I looked forward to every class because it was entertaining and engaging. He is the epitome of awesome!

Mind expanding. Blecker is easily the most interesting professor I will ever have. I never looked at the clock when sitting in that class. If you do the reading, participate in class, and ask questions WHEN (not if) you don't understand something you will be fine. He is very accessible and wants to make sure everyone understands the subject.

Incredibly intelligent man. PAY ATTENTION to what he SAYS. Tells you exactly what he wants for the midterm/final from day 1. Ask him questions! Make sure you can follow his train of thought in class if not you are doomed for the final. Horn books and E&Es are not helpful at all. The best way to do well is to ask him questions. Midterm counts.

Very nice man and interesting class. You will not fall asleep. A lot of reading, ungraded helpful quizzes, midterm, and a final. Teaches very different from other teachers but overall very interesting class. Although it is challenging because of his diff thinking, I would def take him again. Wants to help his students and fair essay grader.

I had him for the condensed semester as well, and while it was difficult the school worked it out by extending a deadline in Legal Practice. Grades were not destroyed as folks had a month to outline and put it all together, making the final infinitely easier. The final is practically given to you and the cases are laid out. Great professor.

Incredible and passionate. His mind goes 100miles per minute and you have to keep up with him. Although the material is confusing, he comes to class 10 minutes early to clarify questions from the last class and he makes sure everyone understands. ASK QUESTIONS!The final is hard, but tell him what he said in class and you'll do well. ASK QUESTIONS!

If not the best, one of the best professors at NYLS. I ripped this professor previously on this site, and I take it back. In hindsight, his crim class, although very challenging, was one of the better classes at NYLS. He teaches his students to think differently about the legal system and New York Penal Law than "normal" crim classes do. Take him!
