She is very hostile to conservative points of view. She lost my exam but I still had to retake it. Goes off topic and does not know how to work the technology. It took her 30 minutes to figure out how to show a video. I heard that she has retired which is a good thing.

Straight from the Frankfurt college of cultural Marxism, you will defintley hear about her far left political ideology. My lowest test score was a 95 yet I barely made a B in the class because my papers were not progressive enough

She is clearly knowledgeable about her field, but puts lots of opinions into what she teaches more often than not. Also doesn't really stress that they are her opinions but are basically fact. I want to learn about the field, not your political opinion. STILL I do value her beliefs and political opinion but college should be a place to learn.

Dr. Van Ness is, to put it simply, messy. However her class is quite easy if you can follow simple directions. She really does care about the subject she's teaching as well as the students. The grading scale is confusing and doesn't make sense until the class is already over and her class is quite boring but it wasn't the worst.

Scatterbrained. Doesn't know how to use her computer. Harasses students. Blatantly rude to anyone who does not agree with her. Not willing to help students, or even speak to them. Tests/quizzes contain no content learned in class. Inserts political opinion heavily. Very unorganized. Will not answer your emails. Never ever take her. For anything.

Comment:
Professor Van Ness does not know how to work a computer, therefore making our grades lower or much different than expected. Her test are over nothing that she talks about in class, but random things we never talked about. I try to talk to her about my grades, but she fails to respond professionally. She isn't very well at communicating, do not take

Avoid this professor. If I could've taken anyone else, I would have. She has no idea how to work a computer, so you spend half the class waiting on her to figure it out. She's scatter-brained, her grading scale makes no sense whatsoever, and she's quite rude to students who don't agree with her. I hated this class. Wish i had never taken it.

Van Ness is the most disorganized professor I have ever had. She seemed stoned most of the time and was always messing things up because she could never figure out how to work anything. Literally, take anybody else.

Avoid this professor as much as possible. The grading is incredibly hard to follow, and you get little to no information about the projects you have to do. I mostly taught myself sociology. Just be sure to watch the videos.

She was by far the worst teacher I've had at UTC. She was very unorganized and absentminded. Her grading scale made no sense. She would assign opinion based essays that required no research then would grade you based off of her bias. If she didn't agree with what you wrote, grade would drop. She didn't even show up for the right time for the final.

You often feel like she doesn't really know what she's doing. She strays from syllabus and takes off lots of points if you don't speak up in class (but when you do, it can turn into a debate). She isn't very much help if you go and see her in office hours. Very scatterbrained. Quizzes and final were super easy if you read and came to class.

Great professor, had her for three classes! tests are difficult if you don't go to class or read. you must study to pass this class. Group projects are easy 100s despite what people are saying. if people do bad on quizzes she will give extra credit or help you. lecture can be boring sometimes but overall good professor

The class is based out of 200 points, there are 2 tests that count for 50% of your grade and the rest is group projects and 6 essays. It is very easy to make an A in her class if you do the work. You will hate going to class though, she is very close minded and very boring. She does let class go early most of the time though.

I hated this class. She doesn't make sense, has poor organizational skills, and makes you get into groups and do work that shouldn't be group work. Tests are super easy, though, and you DO NOT NEED THE BOOK. DO NOT BUY OR RENT IT. There are power points online with everything you need. Overall, painful to go but easy to get through.

For this class, I thought she was decent. It's pretty easy to build up enough points to get an A before the final so you do not have to take it. Lectures were somewhat interesting and we watched a lot of videos to complement the material. Overall, she was a good professor and I would take her again for another class.

aweful!! there are 11 chapters and she only teaches about a fourth of the chapter if that in class but the entire chapter is on the test. assignment due every week. tests are very hard. I do not recommend at all. if you can take someone else. you watch a video every day. there is always something funny she says by accident tho. lol but don't take
