Comment:
Dr. Baker is NOT a nice lady. She seems like a sweet old lady who loves cats and other animals but dont let that deceive you. She grades wayyy too harshly and it makes no logical sense. I would highly discourage anyone from taking this class. I have both a biology background and psychology background and it just wasnt worth it to take this class.

Comment:
Don't take this class. Suzanne is deceiving because she's so sweet in class and lectures are super simple . But then her tests are actually so hard and unnecessarily tricky. Every test had material on it that she said wouldn't be on the test, which is so unfair. Tough grader on the final paper. This class seems like an easy A at first but it's not.

I wanted to like this class but couldn't. She's not very helpful with answering questions and grades pretty harshly. Tests are difficult and she will constantly say that something isn't on the test, but then it will be. This class isn't hard but it seems like she makes it harder than you'd expect.

Suzanne is a nice person, but the worst professor. This is NOT a psychology course, it's strictly biology. Theres no comparison to human behavior. She makes the multiple choice questions insanely difficult and takes points off for things like not having your paper stapled.

Overall I would never take this professor ever again. She is a nice person, but not so nice of a teacher. I had an 89.7 and I still ended upt getting a B+ in her class. Lecture material seemed easy and third grade level, but when come test time, lectures were almost useless. The multiple choice questions were ridiculously hard.

I wish I would have listened to the other comments below before going into hell. Simply do not take this class... This class ruined my whole semester. Worst "teacher" I have ever had at JMU.

Definitely take this class online in the summer if at all possible. There aren't that many assignments and the tests are all open note. The assignments are pretty lengthy and so are the tests but if you put forth effort you will be fine. An easy A if you are a Bio major looking for an upper level class to take.

This class was a lot harder than it needed to be. Attendance is not mandatory, but don't skip you will miss a lot; she doesn't post powerpoints online. Lecture is boring, so write down every word bc tests are so specific. Read the textbook! And all the studies she posts on canvas! One huge group end of semester paper & no final & 1 book critique.

I underestimated how difficult this class was. My downfall was definitely the tests- read the articles, the textbook, AND your notes. You need to know details. Couple of papers, one of which is a group final. Overall, she's a cool professor and it's an interesting course. Take her if you're willing to put in the work.

Dr. Baker loves animals, but this class is way more work than it should be. I definitely learned things about animals, but the work is excessive. There is a book review paper (7-8 pages) and a final group (2-3 peeps) project that is a 20-24 page paper. Lecture is dry and a little boring. Wouldn't take this unless REALLY passionate about animals.

I loved this class and Dr. Baker. You can tell she's very knowledgable & passionate about the topic, and if you love animals, this class is really interesting. She's very willing to help. You'll have to read the book & go to class to do well on tests, but they're pretty fair and she gives extra credit. 3 tests, 5 HWs, book critique, project

Dr. Baker is very passionate, but lecture is dry. There are a lot of readings to supplement the textbook, which is also very dry. There are 5 homework assignments, 3 tests, a methods paper where you get to observe an animal via webcam & a book review/research proposal. If you attend class & keep up with the readings, it's an easy, but boring, A.

Bio major perspective: this is a cool class. I didn't really like animals before but like i said cool class. baker is super nice and willing to help. class is pretty easy as long as you pay attention and study for exams. definitely recommend as a bio elective!

Dr. Baker is sweet, funny, helpful, and great at presenting material and her expectations clearly. Read the book and go over your class notes and you're in for a relatively easy A. I don't agree that this class is easier for Pysch majors...I'm bio and found it very easy, esp for an upper level class. Def helps to be interested in animals.

People that hate on Dr. Baker are just mad because they thought they would get an easy A so they didn't study enough and did poorly on tests. If you study, the tests aren't bad. She's helpful if you ask for help...if you don't ask, then how can she help you? She's an amazing person and a great professor. Don't let these people fool you.

Very fun professor. The subject is a little too...science-y for me but I survived! So I'm sure you can too. I recommend if you have time to focus on it. Kind of like watching the discovery channel or animal planet? The tests aren't too tricky and the papers aren't too demanding.
