Comment:
This one unit class is only taught by Thomas Payne. He tests you on the years of historic computer events. He presents this class in the most boring manner. This class is supposed to prepare you for the professional industry but instead should be renamed to computer history. This 1 unit class had multiple quizzes that actually counted.

His lectures does not help a lot, really hard to understand. Pop quizzes worth 30% of grade and are really tough. Be ready to study by yourself.

This teacher's is a joke, did not learn from went off topic in class, teaches from his confusing notes which are not helpful, AVOID THIS CLASS! If you do take him, you will have to do ALOT of your own studying, because he doesnt teach well and gives random quizzes. Very boring lecturer, the assignments are not too hard, just tedious.

Comment:
The course taken was Software Construction. Learned about many Linux systems programming. but also graded too picky on string formatting. (eg. missing a "comma" in a column would deduct 25% of that grade). Very wordy in his notes, often confuses more than helps. Need to ask for clarity on many specifications. Lecture content irrelevant to course.

So the first thing is that CS100 is a useless class that Payne decided to make a requirement. I learned absolutely nothing and I'm not sure what you would ever actually say you took out of his classes. You pick up random facts on the way but the vast majority of it is useless garbage. Your grade in the class reflects nothing.

Has absolutely no office hours, forwards most questions to the T.A. instead. Quizs are unannounced beginning or end of class. Quiz may not be on previous lectures but lecture of that day. Will hide quiz in his sweatshirt, in the textbook, or between his stacks of notes or at the end. Talks too much about "C++ Gurus" or other miscellaneous subjects.

Comment:
The workload was surprisingly low and the projects were pretty much copy and paste the code given. But his teaching was often just explaining how his code works that was highly ineffective. We spent so much time on ugly details on parsing which was a waste of time. And while the tests were True and False there were petty stupid trick questions.

I took professor Payne classes few years ago and got F’s in all of them. It was my entire fault by not going to talk to him. I took them at Irvine. What Irvine has? Better graders and TA’s. Very well organized. My advice? If you want a grade go to Irvine. If you want to learn, take professor Payne. You are going to appreciate UCR-CS later on, w

I'm sure he knows what he's talking about, but he certainly cannot teach it very well. For some reason, what you learn in lectures and what you do in your programs seem miles apart from each other. You don't really apply the theories learned. Or course, I

One of the 2 hardest CS classes ever. He's a good professor but the material itself is killer. Dont guess on multiple choice, you'll get negative credit. I'm happy with my C-. Couldve been much worse.
