Insanely boring class. Disorganized professor. 20 reflections over the semester. Two exams based on his opinions. One 12 page paper for the final. Annoying but doable. I was never able to figure out if he actually reads thru them. Don't bother emailing him he's a mess. Idk how participation counts if he won't know anyone's names but whatever.

Comment:

Prof shortell is likely the most boring and unhelpful professor I've had in the time I've been at BC. I took socy of religion, thinking it would talk about how different religions co-exist/ the role of gov, literally anything. Instead he just focused on protestants and made it more boring and dreadful to learn about. Avoid this professor!!!!

Doesnt reply to emails which makes it difficult especially when having take home tests!! Does not give helpful feedback on tests. Would not take again. When he shows how to complete a stat test, its a completely different format than what we have to do on our own so going back into notes, its of no help to use what we learned in class

Shortell is the easiest teacher anyone will ever take!! You can find free pdfs of the books online. You have to write 3 paragraphs on every reading which will boost your grade immensely! He just checks to make sure you did them, but don't leave them for last minute or you will be screwed. There is a take home exam (8 qs), and 8 minute presentation.

Professor Shortell is an outstanding man! He saved my life had I taken Research Methods with any only one else it would have not been pretty. His door is open to the students, he is very helpful, clear and concise with his delivery of statistics and you can see he loves what he does. Please take him if you do nothing else at BC. All Hail the King!

Statistics is not an easy class no matter who is the professor. Shortell was one of the most helpful professors at the college. He responds to emails, offers help during and off class hours, and mos importantly, he is extremely clear about his expectation from assignments. Really cool man.

He's a great professor. He's very helpful. He really knows his stuff I think he's a brilliant man. I also enjoyed reading his sociological blog. He makes a lot of sense and he really knows what he's is talking about. I liked him a lot and I'm going to miss him at the end of the semester. He is so cool. Take his class. He's great.

Group Projects and some members dont help, you may be the only worker but theyll still get a grade. Long lectures if you like sociology youll be ok otherwise youll wish you were in Hawaii. Easy work as long as you read the material, but its not an overload of work. Nevermind the Prof. monotone voice just keep up and try not to drift off to sleep.

If you are a person who is here to learn, i highly recommend him. If you are a joker reconsider this class. You have to be focused and willing to spend time on this class. Lots of reading, but he makes it easy for you to make a good grade. No midterm-open book final. Class projects and group projects are his speciality. I would recommend him.
