You learn a lot from this class but unless you want to be studying hours and hours/day for this class, do not take it for a letter grade. It is VERY hard to get an A in all his midterms. The quality of the class also depends heavily on the GSIs--Fall 2015 they were all horrible. The lecture is def worth taking even PNP though!

He's an inspirational professor and he genuinely enjoys what he teaches. However, if you don't go to class, you will fail. Period. He doesn't use powerpoint or online notes, he just outlines what he wants to teach and uses the board to draw diagrams and lectures off diagrams so you better pay attention 'cause tests are not multiple choice (HARD!!).

Comment:

Tyrone is inspirational, hilarious, entertaining, and impressive. He's really well-known in his field and is awesome. The tests are tough--3 midterms and a very cumulative and integrative final. You have to really understand everything, not just memorize it. I took this as an elective and it was tough but rewarding.

Comment:

Professor Hayes is one of a kind. His class was challenging, but it was so enjoyable that I wanted to study for it. His lectures were phenomenal. I learned endocrinology, along with some great life lessons. I highly recommend this to all IB majors. You won't be disappointed. This class is of exceptional quality and Hayes is the best professor ever!

Best professor at Berkeley. Absolutely no contest. Makes hormones so interesting. However, the class is not easy but if you put in time and ask for help, it is well worth it. You cannot be an IB major and NOT take this class.

By far the BEST professor I had in my undergrad career at Cal. Tyrone is the best, always looking out for his students and hilarious- never a dry lecture. Tests are fair, essay type exams around 7-10 pages. Everything is from lecture, i just memorized all the lecture material and learned to apply it in different ways to do well. Increased my GPA!

Best teacher I have ever had. I am in graduate school now in the neurosciences, and I have yet to find another professor like Tyrone. It is a hard class, but well worth it.

Honestly one of the best professors I've ever had!! Tyrone( he likes being called by his first name) is a phenomenal lecturer. He is clear, concise and hilarious. I learned more in this class than a lot of my other classes ! His exams are fair. Just attend lectures, memorize and review notes a few times and an A is definitely achievable.

He has a great personality but I was disappointed in the course material. I was expecting endocrinology and I ended up taking a basic physiology class. The tests are hard and you have to think like him. The course comes down to the GSIs. I recommend the course but I do feel that Tyrone is overrated.

We're halfway through the semester, and I can already guarantee that Tyrone is the best professor I'll probably ever have. The exams are definitely doable - especially since he makes the class so interesting that I actually want to study. He is an amazing lecturer and also makes what we're learning relevant to what's going on.

A little overrated but great,clear lecturer. sometimes tries to dumb things down too much. tests are challenging but what you learn is so useful for later classes.this class was too general for my taste-not many molecular mechanisms,take mcb135 if you like details.really really cares about students,go to his OH-he'll even meet you on weekends!

Tyrone is my favorite professor ever. He's an amazing person as well as a talented teacher. He's open to discussions, he knows most students' names, jokes a lot, but is serious about testing your knowledge. Everyone should take this class b/c you'll learn so much about endo as well as how to analyze health conditions and just be a better person

Tyrone is a rare gem in the world of professors. He is passionate and hilarious. He teaches the material in a thorough and accessible manner. Lecture is like watching a great TV show. Don't use the book. Test material is from lecture. He is also an amazing scientist who isn't afraid to conduct research that is contrary to corporate interests.

I cant begin to express my respect for Tyrone. His class is hard, but he will do everything in his power for you to do well. He is a fantastic lecturer, and amazingly bright. One of the best classes at Cal. Never miss class, and study! He will test you and force you to apply knowledge, not regurgitate.

Tyrone is one of the best professors I have ever had. He will really test you, his exams are HARD! But if you work hard, it really does pay off. He's really open and available to students and very dedicated to making sure everyone does well. this class was amazing, and i will lucky to EVER come across a teacher as outstanding as Tyrone. His ideas, values, experiences, all make him a professor you don't want to pass up. He is young and enthusiastic, and he gives you a clear, interesting, and life-changing course on endocrinology. take it!

This guy is off the hook! I was so sorry to see this class end because he made Endo so exciting. Tyrone truly cares about his students. It's a little sad for other professors because now they will always be compared to THE Prof Tyrone Hayes.

I took 3 classes with Tyrone and he's the best. I'm glad to see him still teaching at CAL, schools are hitting him up with offers all the time, and anyone interested endocrinology, IB or MCB, HAS to take his class.
