Dr Stout is the best professor I have ever taken. She is so accessible outside of class and truly cares so much about the success of her students. She made biology class something I was very excited for. She is willing to work closely with you if you are struggling, and give you all the tools you need to succeed. I will truly miss her and her class

Valerie Stout was an awesome teacher. I took this class online for 7 weeks and she made it extremely easy to get an A. The first week is VERY work heavy, but you have online lab partners and that helps a lot. As long as you put in a valiant effort to your work, you'll pass the class. No exams, I personally didn't need the book, interesting and fun!

Dr. Stout was one of the best professors I ever had. Reading and assignments are reasonable. No extra credits, and no exams or quizzes either! She is available to answer questions by email quickly, and very helpful when needed. The lecture videos were informative, entertaining, and pay-attention the assignments' questions are answered in lecture.

This class is extremely easy to anyone who has done well in high school biology. Unfortunately the grading system in this class does not reward knowledge, but instead your grade will be based off of clicker questions and pointless lab quizzes. Also, I personally felt that the lectures like were for elementary school children with all of the demos.

If u come to class, sit behind someone that's smart and knows the clicker questions so u can see the answer. U really don't need the book or need to read ahead like she says, just google/quizlet search the questions for quizzes. Look over powerpoints and practice tests before the real test. AND DON'T BE THAT PERSON THAT TAKES THE LAB SO SERIOUSLY

I love biology but honestly hated this class. She was definitely enthusiastic but it was a bit too much. The lectures were boring and heavy with clicker questions, making attendance mandatory. The only bright side was the exams were easy

Great teacher, and she is VERY willing to work one-on-one with students outside of class to help you understand. She cares more about you understanding principles than memorizing hundreds of terms. She is very open to talking about grades if you do your best and visit her in office hours. Attend class, very hard to understand if you don't go!!

Please choose a different professor if you plan on taking BIO181. She does not teach, just spews clicker questions left and right without giving a good amount of time for students to answer. Very boring lectures that only barely review the concepts we should be learning. Expects us to read before lecture to touch up on concepts. Not a very fun clas

This class is hard for one reason only: there isn't much guidance. Bright side? No exams! Your grade depends on weekly worksheets and labs with little information provided. Lab partners can make or break you so beware! Dr. Stout is very helpful and caring so if you have a problem or need help, she's there for you. Not a bad class but not the best.

She expects you to have read the material before coming to class, has clicker questions every day. The class is very conceptual, making it difficult to study for exams. The textbook isn't much help, either, but you can make do without it. Very difficult class.

I enjoyed Prof. Stouts class. I am not a biology person (A&P killed me). Stout made it easy to understand and fun! I took this, along with the lab, alone in one term but feel like I could have managed another class too. The class was not overwhelming as long as I watched the lecture videos and did the hw. I would recommend Stout! Plus, no exams!

I honestly really enjoyed Dr Stout's class. It was really difficult (as I expected of Microbiology) but she made it interesting and easy to manage. It is VERY work heavy but if you take the time to consult the book and lecure videos you will do fine. The lectures are helpful and she gives a few extra credit options (5 points here and there).

You must attend the classes, there are a bunch of clicker questions every lecture. The exams are very difficult if you don't fully understand the topics as they are very conceptual and situational based. The homework weekly quizzes are very hard and difficult so you must use the textbook with it. She gets defensive when you question her exams

Dr. Stout was an amazing professor that changed up her teaching style from the norm. Instead of focusing on pointless memorization, she focused on critically thinking and actually understanding the concepts. Show up to class because her lectures and clicker questions make the tests and material extremely understandable. Take her!

Not great. She relies on WAY too many clicker questions and students reading the book rather than doing any teaching. She rarely seems sure about anything she's talking about and expects you to know clicker questions without any real guidance. I have never seen such disparity in clicker answers. She's nice though, so she's got that going for her.

Dr. Stout is an amazing biology professor. I enjoyed her active learning lectures because it makes you really understand the material that you are learning. She truly makes time for her students and wants to see everyone succeed. I would email her throughout the semester with questions and she would get back to me in 2 hours tops. Best professor!

She is an okay professor. Not my favorite though. She assigned a lot of reading and clicker points (most of the class). You need to basically read and get the material in order to get the clicker points. I knew most of the material from high school biology but I suggest for new comer in BIO to use website: Khanacademy! The best website to to learn!

really bad professor, pretty much lets the textbook do the teaching and expects you to know the material before she has gone over it. Gives way too many clicker questions which makes it hard to get full points in class everyday. She does not seem too confident in what she's saying and sometimes doesn't have an answer to questions being asked
