Comment:
This was my first ever online class, & I must say that Dohar made the experience as enjoyable as possible. He assigned light readings/viewings/listenings and a simple 2-page reflection journal every week. Believe it or not, he graded assignments too leniently as long as the effort was there. No midterms and a short final essay similar to journals.

Well, I hated this class. Complete disappointment. I thought it was going to be about religion and violence throughout the ages. In other words, I thought it was going to be a history course. Instead, it was a class filled with useless discussions about "ethics." I did not feel like I learned anything. Easy class. He is sarcastic in a good way.

Dr. Dohar was my favorite professor at Santa Clara, very helpful person in and out of the classroom. One of my biggest regrets while I was at Santa Clara (I transferred out) was not being able to take his upper division class. Don't be afraid to talk to him, very approachable person, wrote my letter of recommendation to transfer schools

Class is challenging and enriching (if you pay attention). Grades fairly, really funny lecturer, presents material in a non-biased way, answers question well. One of my favorite religion professors by far!

Comment:
Dohar's Christian Tradition class was just about as much fun as I could have asked for from a religion class. Lots of reading assignments. Essays are short. Participation is key. Every class starts with a question (unrelated to the class), that everyone has to answer, so that can be fun.

Great teacher! Her really knows his stuff, and his lectures are not too boring. He is really funny, and he doesn't assign busy work. All his classes are mildly entertaining, his quizzes are easy (provided you read), and he gives a take home final. Enjoy!

Great professor. Very interesting and you will learn a lot. Class discussions are important for your grade and the 1 pagers aren't too bad as long as you take some time on them.

Awesome professor! Dohar shows interest in student progress and is very willing to help. Lectures are sometimes student-led and can wander off-topic at times. Students need to think critically about subject matter. Course was made up of participation, 2 quizzes, 2 short papers, and a take home final. I certainly learned a lot!

Real funny guy, makes class interesting. but at times he can go off on tangents and ends up talking for 50 minutes straight. He opts for the Socratic method of teaching, so make sure to speak up in class! Participation is big part of grade. He grades kind of harshly on the papers, but talk to him beforehand and he'll help you.

Sometimes he is fun and engaging; other times he is distracted and scattered. He says he values critical thinking and expressing your ideas above all else but he is an incredibly hard grader ? it?s nearly impossible to get As on your papers. He?s a friendly guy and the topics are interesting but he is not the most effective teacher.

Dohar is definitely one of the best profs at SCU! He is very down to earth! Also, he genuinely cares about his students and the subjects he teaches. Plan on participating if you take his class though. It is a discussion based course and is much more interesting if you are engaged in the conversation. I will definitely take more of his classes!

The class is pretty easy. He's really funny and a great lecturer, but sometimes I found him to be unorganized. Sometimes we would skip some minor topics. The 3 quizzes are a breeze. The 3 writing assignments are also pretty easy. I didn't really like the final. It was 2 short essays, required a lot of thinking. Anyway, the class was interesting.

He keeps class interesting and enlivens the material...But, your grade will be hurt if you are not an active participator. This means that you can get A's on the quizzes and do well on the essays, but end up with a lower grade (i.e. dropped from a solid letter to a minus, a plus to a solid letter, etc.)if you don't speak up every class.
