I've never met such a contradicting man in my life. He thinks that his methods will make us work harder, but really just turned me off of sculpture. Even though I got an A, it is because of him that I will never take another sculpture class again.

Is obviously passionate about art, but tends to have narrow views as to what art can be. Is rather patronizing towards women. but the most detrimental aspect of the class is his inability to stop talking and actually listen to what anybody else has to say, despite constantly asking for input. Avoid if possible.

I went into this Studio Experience class expecting to be challenged; I didn't expect to be insulted and my projects cut into by his hands - -MY project, not yours! Pisses me off every day I come in, DIRECTLY contradicts himself, is offensive and rude. Interrupts me when I'm asking legitimate questions to make ridiculous accusations. AWFUL.

My favorite class at school so far. He pushed my buttons and pushed me to be a better artist. Expects the best from you. Fun class with all the projects and learned so much. Have an open mind about him. He does act like he is the "shit" sometimes but he has exhibits and artwork all over the world...so I think he knows what hes doing.

Al knows his stuff but he is usually a pain about it. If you're expecting to have any sort of fun in this class then you'll be extremely disappointed. You must sign your name on a paper every day (not too bad) and you also cannot talk during his class (not a good time). He talks a LOT and if you interrupt then prepare to get yelled at a bit.

Al is one of the best professors here. All this negative about him is crap. Just because students are looking for an easy studio class witha professor who is going to boost ur ego. Laverge is not that person. He is a smart ass but the trick is be one right back. Anyone who takes this class will be better for it theres nothing wrong with hard work.

He is a pain to work with, but he is one of the best artists on earth when it comes to steel fabrication. I knew nothing before his 331 class, now I am very good. If you have a thick skin and come prepared to work hard, you'll benefit greatly for taking his classes. If you are looking for an easy studio class, don't come to knollwood.
