Comment:

He was definitely a tough grader on the essay assignments, but he was very clear on everything everything else he taught such as grammar. This class was pretty easy. Of course you have to show up, pay attention, and study a bit.

His grading was confusing and he doesn't explain what he wants in the essays because its an eng100 class. He expect's way too much from his students. Comment:

Professor Orton is an amazing teacher who is more than prepared to go all out to help you. He is tough because he is tryiing to train you into understanding English, and to write well. Undoubtedly, he is a tough grader; however, having said that I would highly recommend taking his Eng 50 because you will be damn good at Eng 100 because of him.

Professor Orton has extremely high expectations of his students, but helps every single one grow IF THEY CARE TO TAKE THE INITIATIVE and ASK for help. He used to teach at USC, so you know he's a high caliber professor. If you're trying to skate by, choose someone else. If you want to be challenged, Orton is your man.

His Eng10 class was harder than my Eng100 & 202 class...He makes it seem like he doesn't want anyone to pass with an A. He will give you a D on essays and give you corrections and comments to follow. Do these and you will get an F because he is so strict that he'll mark his own corrections as incorrect. If you want to struggle to get a D, take him.

Eng 10 with him was harder than my Eng 100 & 202 classes...He makes it seem like he does not want anyone to pass. He will gladly hand you a D on your essay and tell you to correct your mistakes. If you do that and hand it back, don't be surprised to receive an F because he marks down his own corrections as incorrect.

The most toughest class I've ever taken. I worked my butt off in his class trying to correct my essays.He gives grades like he doesn't want anyone to pass. He will point out EVERY mistake you make. If you want a stressful challenge take his class. If not there are other English professors that lecture better.

He is an extremely tough professor, but he prepares you well for the real world. He is very clear about all his work assigned to the students and helps anyone who is unsure of the topic or assigned work. He grades fair but his work is very tough. If you want to learn real English i highly recommend him.

Orton is strict. Orton engages. Orton is clear and repeats himself many times for the benefit of his students. Orton's goal is to prepare you for witing in business level competition. His grading agitates students very much, but if you conform for the course of this class your outcome in writing will be short, clear, strong, and effective.

I took this class over the summer. I aced all the exams, but the way he grades essays is just disgraceful. I only got D-'s and C-'s. I passed the class with a B, but my English 50 and Business English teacher both give me A's on essays. Do not take this teacher he does not help you on how to write essays, and gets irritated if you ask him for any.

Prof Orton is one of the best instructors you'll find at any college for this type of class. He expects his students to know how to write, or to learn how to write in clear, concise, grammatically correct English. Isn't this a fundamtental skill we all need? If you don't like him, then I suspect you're not prepared to work hard in the real world.

The class has great structure. i loved that we could write an essay turn it in and revise it for the final grade. BUT he is just unreal on his grading. He is the hardest teacher ive ever had. His grading is impossible. Just crazy. We missed like 5 weeks cause all of the revisions but still not worth it. HIS GRADING IS SO SO SO SO CRAZY!!!

I think he is good teacher and very helpfull.Very pickie on grading a paragraph and essay, but he'll help you to get a good gread. he's very organize and stick to plan. If you like to take a hard English class and really like to write an Essay than take his class.Overall he's a really good teacher.

First day of class he told us to not expect an A. If you want to struggle just to get a C in his class go ahead and take him. If you ever get an A on a paper you deserve a gold medal.
