Chalberg is an amazing professor. His lectures are thoughtful, interesting, and superbly put together. He also has an extraordinary sense of humor. Took two classes and they were both my faves. I was disappointed when class ended, and was always excited when class was about to begin. A+ lecturer. A+ guy.

It's been 15 years since I took professor Chalberg's class. Best class I took in my college education and one of the main reasons I recommend Normandale regularly. He expects a lot. Suck it up buttercup if you're heading to a 4yr college, he's the norm. At least he's accessible outside of class, won't get that with the U of M general profs.

Be ready to do a lot of work. Amazing person and knows a ton, but there are discussions every week, an essay due at least every other week, 50 pages reading and 2+ quizzes based on this reading and lecture every week. Lectures are awful to listen to because he goes on about random things but he knows a lot and is willing to help/explain things.

AVOID THIS CLASS AT ALL COST!!! For entry level freshman course his workload is crazy. Sometimes gives 2 day notice for quizzes. Take another course if this an elective for you.

He assigns WAY too much work. If you want to get an A, you better be a history buff and expect this class to be your full time job. I'm not here to scare you, but I'm a fairly good student and this class left me low self esteem and confusion. I never worked so hard for a B in my life. This class was insanely hard. I would NEVER recommend this class

I took the online class and would not recommend it to anyone, EVER. This class was absolutely awful and I found it so hard to keep up with what was expected of us each week. This class will take up all of your time, before he even assigns you his 100 page essays. I have never had to work so hard in a class in my life. He is not the nicest either.

Had him for an online US History class. Makes you read 1-2 chapters in the textbook, watch 1-2 videos, and listen to 2-4 lectures every week. Exams are very difficult and quizzes aren't much easier.

I took US History online. He seemed knowledge. Quizzes are moderately hard and are out of 10 points (sometimes out of 11, which is an extra bonus point). My grades on these have ranged 3-910. I didn't read the chapter a couple of times and still did okay on the quiz by googling things. Exams are HARD! I studied for like 5 hours and got a D+C-.

I took Chuck's US history class in 1985 at the U of M. He had an amazing recall of history & to this day has made a positive impact on me. I have to laugh at all of the comments about Chuck being a poor prof because he assigns too much work. Get used to working hard, it's something that will serve you well for many yrs to come.

STAY AWAY! Unless you have a serious knowledge of History already just stay away. His work load is heavy and he makes you read 100 page essays he wrote. This guy has some serious ego issues.

Interesting class. Easy points for assignment and participation in discussions. Exams are difficult, especially essay questions. Sometimes they are worded in a confusing way. Quizzes are quickly timed easy to get 9 out of ten but rare to consistently get 10 out of 10. Lots of reading and long lectures. Large work load.

I have always been extremely interested in US History but it lacked guidance from the instructor.Chalberg it wars likely more than not that he would leave out a part of the reading that was key to maintain a good quiz grade. He allowed for 8-9 minutes for an 11 question quiz which wouldn't be so bad if you didn't have to google every question asked.

Avoid him at al cost. He is arrogant and demeaning. Key terms are useless, words test questions so it is impossible to get right. Lectures are extremely boring! Essay question, at least 3 chapters, 3 quizzes, and debate EVERY WEEK! Ridiculous amount of time required for an entry level history.

I strongly suggest NOT to take his class for several reasons. He is plain out horrific teacher. he is disorganized. his lectures are 2 to 3 hours straight and they're not even wont listening. You're better off learning from the book. He refuses to work with them. You WILL have a ton of work! Overall, his class is very difficult.

THIS WAS THE WORST CLASS OF MY LIFE. I've never in my life had to do SOOO much work to barely get a B in the class. It was crazy hard to keep up with all the material. So many quizzes/papers/discussions. If History was the only thing in life I had to do and worry about, it would STILL be impossible to get an A. AVOID HIM. Absolutely horrible.

Dr. Chalberg is a very knowledgeable professor. He wants to see his students learn and not just pass, so don't take this class if you are just going for grades. Take this class if you want to learn a lot about history. I took it online, but you have to make sure you read his pull posts, because he does offer extra credit.

If you don't want to fail do not take his class he is very lazy and will not actually help the students. He gives us lectures that will bore you to death then he gives us quizzes on the lectures and what we have read. He isn't very clear on what the exams are on. IF you WANT A HELPFUL TEACHER SAVE YOUR SELF THE GRADE AND CHOSE OTHERS.

Dr. Chalberg is a great professor. Notice I didn't say teacher, he teaches his class at a community college as if he were teaching at a university. He is not a typical Community College teacher, which is what made me respect him. He doesn't take attendance but if you decide to skip his lectures you will fail.
