She will not baby you nor hold your hand. She will give you the tools needed to succeed in live and your career. If you win her approval then you need to keep that momentum. Do no slow down or you will fail.

Comment:

Cynthia tries to push you to do your best, but in the wrong way. She expects you to memorize every detail of what she says and will laugh and tell you to read the calendar instead of answering any question you ask her. She makes you feel dumb for asking any questions and seems condescending in everything she says. Don't take her class if you can.

Comment:

Cynthia know her stuff & you learn from her, but she's not cut out to be a professor. She always pushes you to do your best, but in the wrong way. She's never clear on what she wants & her expectations are unreal. I wouldn't take her class with any other class that gives out a lot of work. She's better taken alone or not at all if can help it.

At first, she was terrifying. But, as time went on, I began to see the value in having her as a teacher. She's very strict with critiques and deadlines. but, her critiques helped me so much, and I saw the most growth in her class vs. any other 1st semester class. Would highly recommend her for typography or any other class where you want to grow.

If you want to learn and be prepared for life outside of college then I HIGHLY recommend taking classes with Cynthia. If you don't like to put in the effort, complete assignments on time or be held accountable for your own actions or if you like to make excuses then do not take Cynthia's classes. Be prepared to work! Best professor I ever had!!

Cynthia is the kind of professor that you either really like, or really dislike. Personally, I think that she is a great professor. She helps you out if you ask, and she gives good feedback it is just hard to interpret sometimes.

Cynthia might seem tough and harsh at first, but you'll have to get used to that with design. She provides great feedback and actually makes you understand what you're doing and why you're doing it. Learned a lot from the class despite how challenging it was.

I have always valued Cynthia as a mentor and professor. She really challenges you to push yourself in this class. She also encourages you to be yourself and not a copy cat of other designers. Take Cynthia for this class!

Cynthia is extremely difficult, and she makes you work for your grade. Best advise is show up to class, and do your work. As long as you do what you are supposed to, then you will be fine. HIGHLY Recommend her, she is tough, but is totally worth it!!!

The best teacher I've ever had. She is the reason I have a job today in design. I came into the design program not knowing for sure this is what I wanted to do. WIth her strict teaching and always forcing me to do my best I feel I'm the designer that I am today bc of her. AMAZING TEACHER!

cynthia is a good teacher. she is tuff but she knows her stuff. i dont recommend her class if you are taking any other major classes at the time. a lot of time outside of class is spent on work for her. she is a better second year teacher than a first year. go in expecting to be critiqued every step of the way. and she is pretty strict.

Genius. Very difficult but she will teach you to be the best you can be by showing all the possible ways to improve. People don't like her because they're so used to things being easy and handed to them, but Cynthia DOES NOT DO THIS! Which is good!

Ask yourself; can you take criticism? Are you expecting to work for your grade versus being given a grade? Be honest. Art isn't always a walk in the park. Cynthia expects your hard word, and is demanding. She's one reason SCC remains one of the top community colleges in the Nation. Come prepared.

Here's how it goes. If you think design is all about knowing Photoshop and you'll succeed, then find another profession. Cynthia isn't there to hold your hand or care about your life, your future boss sure doesn't. Taker her bc you'll be better, not just to get the degree and a job you don't deserve.

She knows her stuff really good and I love that about her but I do think that she is more like a football coach than an in class professor. There is life outside of her class and I don't think she realizes that. I admire her knowledge and respect her passion for typography. Not going to take her again if possible. Oh and I hated that she timed us.

Okay, here is the deal about Cynthia. She is a pretty amazing teacher, if you feel that she is talking to you like you're ignorant about the class; it's because you are. She is as strict as she is because once you're out in the work-field, you wont have it easy. Keep in mind that you should communicate with her outside of class too. This helps!!

I took Typography with cynthia winter 2010, and it was by far the toughest class I've taken so far. I passed with a B, while working a full-time job and full-time school, so it's definitely possible. She definitely weeded out the bad designers quickly (half the class dropped out) But I definitely feel more confident as a designer after passing.

It's true, Cynthia does demand excellence & does bring your design abilities to the next level. But at what price? She belittles students who are working hard to meet her high expectations. She expects students to consider her class the most important thing in their lives. Thankfully, I passed Typography - I will never take another class with her.
