He was very unclear with what he wanted. He had his very own website so he thought he was way to cool for blackboard so assignments were posted every where. So needless to say my first assignments were not excepted because I was not sure of the date it was due and he would not except late work. Not a good teacher at all I have to re take the class

I don't like that he gives little feedback. I feel its not enough. With it being hybrid its kind of challenging but if you ask for help he will give it, also take advantage of the learning center. Overall hes not a bad teacher, he just talks in terms way over my head most of the time. He has challenged me to be very creative though.

Not a good teacher. It took him until the last week to get everything graded and assumes that you already know what you are being taught. He gives no directions for homework and then grades harshly because you did not do it right. There is no point in emailing him, because by the time he responds the assignment is already due. Do not take him.

I would highly recommend taking any class taught by David Phelps. I took Contemporary Literature, and the class was highly demanding with both reading and writing assignments, but it was truly one of my favorite classes.I learned so much from Mr.Phelps,and am thankful that I didn't listen to the negative comments.

Comment:

Phelps is a challenging professor that will teach you a lot. However, if you are a student who appreciates timely feedback on assignments and emails I would not recommend this professor. Also, pay close attention and always verify due dates, as he changes them often. Most awful classroom experience I've had to date at Baker College.

Mr. Phelps is off the walls. He is terrible at explaining things, and when he does explain them, he contradicts himself. My first speech, I did EXACTLY what he wanted, and got a C on it.. DON'T TAKE THIS TEACHER!!! Because honestly, if you are not into nerdy things like he is, you will do horrible in his class.

I would not recommend him very bad teacher. The class is a hybrid. He assigns due dates and then he does not do his part to have his stuff ready by then. Takes him a very long time to give you a grade back. And is a very hard teacher. Talks way above your level unless you really know english

If you are not looking forward to takig Oral Communications but have to, take Mr. Phelps. He's great!He understand that this is a class most people want to necessarily take so helps you feel more comfortable giving your speech and adds in some humor. The class is also hybrid so part is online which worked great for my schedule. Thumbs up!!

I dreaded taking this class but Mr. Phelps was recommended to me and I would recommend him to anyone else, especially those who hate speaking in front of people. He has a quarky sense of humor and he understands the fear of speaking. The hybrid class was perfect for me and my busy schedule. Thumbs up for sure!

Professor Phelps is a very good teacher. The class is easy as long as you complete your work. My class was half using BB and half in the classroom. There were not as many speeches required for the Hybrid course as there would of been in a regular speech class.

Hate speaking infront of people. Mr. Phelps has away of making this class easy as cake. Everyone of my terrified class mates for sure aced this class He's so funny and easy on the eyes! Read bad Comp reviews, But SUPER AWESOME for SPEECH!

Nobody likes to speak infront of class. Public Speaking has always been a big fear of mine. I could not imagine a better Professor then Phelps! He has so much to teach about becoming a better speaker! Great Class! Fun Teacher!

I am surprised by the mixed reviews that Mr. Phelps has received. I think that he is a Great, intelligent Professor that is fun and helpful! He wants his students to do well. A really great class that I would recommend! One of my favorite teachers at Baker!

Admittedly he is a bit hard to understand and you will put some hard work into his classes for sure but you will walk out of whatever class you take with him with a better grasp on the subject at hand then you will with just about any other professor on campus! He's great...with high expectations of his students.

Mr. Phelps was by far the most difficult teacher I have dealt with at Baker. He is very unclear with what he is wanting. Much easier to say what papers you want written and give us some topics. In the beginning of class he said no one will pass with anything better then a B. If you have him, my recommendation is get another instructor!
