Comment:
Dutch is nice but gives feedback that is copy and pasted for everyone, most of the time. It's also vague. You might get a B on an assignment and never know why. His instructions don't often make sense, either.

Took English 101 this fall. Dutch makes you work, but gives help in the class workshops. I improved in the class.

Took English 101 with Dutch and he was great. His personality made class enjoyable and he did everything he could to assist his students. After coming out of his class I can say that I was able to refine my writing skills, and I ended up learning more than I thought I could in an English class. Would definitely recommend taking his class.

This professor gives ambiguous feedback and tasks. I never knew exactly what he wanted from me. Even when he gave me full credit based on the writing rubrics, he gave me grades in the low nineties based on extremely minor details, like having a thesis that could be made a little shorter. I asked for specific feedback, but I think he uses copy&paste

Dutch uses current topics as subjects for assignments. He also allows you to pick the topic you write your essays on. Much easier than having to read something you have no interest in. He's fair but expects full answers not quick one line answers. He really taught me writing techniques, where my last ENGL101 professor did not. I appreciated him.

Fine class for ENG101, I appreciated that he didn't require a textbook, that saved me money. He's a tough grader and pretty nit picky, I got an A but felt like I had to exert myself a bit for it. Some of the things he would take points off for made me roll my eyes. Busy work almost everyday. He did pick interesting readings.

His grading is really tough. Just don't take this class, unless you want to major in politics and English...

He is AMAZING. I have never actually learned or liked the process of writing until he introduced me to the way he does things. Class is easy but you ACTUALLY LEARN unlike Sean Rody's class... I wish I could've taken more class with this dude and would recommend him to ANYONE

Tough Grader. There are assignments everyday. You have to work hard for it and if you think you already did, you still don't get a high score. Instructions are not always clear. Quite sarcastic. He chooses hard topic and boring topic.

Quizzes and journal entries are easy to get full credit on. However, really prepare for in-class writes because those can be graded harshly. Also, never turn in an essay late, it is automatically ten percent off. Show up to class and raise your hand in able to get a good participation grade. It is overall an OK class, nothing special.

Dutch is challenging, but if you do the assignments and put the time in you will do well. Don't know where others get the idea you don't learn. You have to do the learning yourself.

Not the best teacher, but have seen worse. He is not too good of a lecturer and his class is very, very dry. Gives more work than my other friend's teacher. Easy on grades, though. But honestly, I didn't learn anything. If you're one to get good grades and not learn much, take him. If you want to learn, don't.

Great teacher. Learned a great deal from him. Always willing to help if you ask for it. If you have problems with quizzes all you need to is ask him for some addition help and he will provide it. Allows you to rewrite essays to achieve a higher grade on them.
