Awful. Took intro to ethics and he basically turned me off to the field. He is hilarious and obviously highly intelligent, however not a good teacher and an even worse grader. Even though it's an intro class, he expects you to already know upper-level ethics and philosophical ideas before entering the room and unfairly grades accordingly.

Evan Riley is one of the best professors I have ever had, and he is still very young. Extremely helpful and extremely clear. He has a good sense of humor and he is very challenging with his critiques.

Comment:
Very boring class with lots of boring readings. He seems like a pretty nice guy but he is a hard grader. However, our TA graded a lot of the papers and was an easier grader than Evan. Participation counts but he doesn't know everyone's name so he kind of just makes it up unfairly. I wouldn't recommend this class.

Comment:
Intro to ethics with this professor was terrible. Everyone in the class felt lost and there was no professor-student relationship so no one was brave enough to speak up to tell him to slow down. He is funny and very very educated, but not a good idea to take him if you want to just fulfill the requirement...lectures are very hard to follow.

I don't know what all these other comments are talking about. Riley was hillarious, not arrogant. He has a very unique sense of humor that made the class a lot more fun that it otherwise might have. His TA does most of the grading, and it wasn't too bad. Sometimes I felt Riley wasn't fair too all opinions but overall he was great. I'd take him agai

Professor Riley did improve as the semester went on, but I think that his attitude can really rub people the wrong way. Classes were all lectures (read from long overheads) and didn't encourage people to discuss or to become interested in the subject matter.

Comment:
Professor Riley was an overall poor professor. Granted, it was his first time teaching a class, but avoid taking the class until he improves. Class was dull and lectures relied too much on overhead slides that were verbose and unclear. Likewise, he focused too much on theoretical ethics without applying what we were discussing to moral issues.

Honestly, a horrible professor. Hates everyone in his class. Hates his job. Georgetown probably should not have let him return for a second semester. He does tell a lot of jokes that are vaguely funny, yet they usually revolve around sadistic things, drugs, and S&M.

At first he seemed like a total jerk. About 20 people dropped the class within the first week. He seems to really not respect his students and considers them completely ignorant. However, he's actually pretty funny with his sarcastic comments. One midterm, fairly easy, one take home final, two papers, not a hard grader.

I wasn't sure I liked him at first but as the semester went on it seemed like he became more comfortable and relatable. He could be really funny and sarcastic and his sense of humor helped make some confusing and long-winded topics more understandable and interesting. I would recommend taking one of his courses.

Most useless, arrogant, presumptuous, napoleanistic TA imaginable. He took a very intersting class and turned into a nightmare. Run. Run very fast. I want my money back...
