Fred is amazing. Don't piss him off though, because he won't hold back - I love it. The guy is super smart, teaming with personality, and he really cares about his students. A class act. He is pretty oldschool, which can be very amusing. He's one of Carleton's finest engineering profs.

Highly recommend! Knows / explains the material great and wants you to do well; very helpful if you get stuck. You absolutely HAVE to practice and know your stuff, though, and this cannot be emphasized enough for the exams. Attend all lectures and PA's! Topics build on each other, so stay on top -- do that, and the course won't be that bad.

Slides are always posted online (they are good but not extremely clear)and there is very little written on the board during class. Lectures tend to be fairly boring but he works slowly through examples. The PA sessions had unmarked practice quizzes at the beginning which were helpful but I rarely stayed for the whole session. Exam and midterm fair.

Really liked Fred as a prof. Super clear lectures. Really knows his stuff: can get you un-stuck on an assignment problem in seconds. Quite blunt and intense at times, which can be hilarious. His exams, though not 'hard' per se, really put your knowledge of the course to the test: KNOW THE MATERIAL AND PRACTICE! Terrific prof, highly recommended!

Decent prof, wants to see his students do well. Sometimes, he seems to confuse himself while talking, but other than that, his lectures are good. Also, he doesn't sugar coat anything, which can be pretty amusing at times.

Not easy to keep interest in his teachings, mainly because of his voice. If I hadn't done this course working in groups after class, then I wouldn't have passed it.

Very good at explaining the material. Goes at just the right pace so that you can catch everything. In my opinion, a high quality Prof. The course IS challenging though. The tutorial assignments are NOT enough practice, so you should really practice as many questions as possible out of the textbook to be ready for the tricky midterm and exam.

The content can be hard, but he is pretty clear when he teaches. He's very straight-forward with what he teaches. One of the better profs at Carleton. It's definately a good idea to attend and pay attention to his lectures.

Zzzzzzzzz... Soo boring. Nearly impossible to survive 1.5 hours classes with him. Nice guy, cares about how his students do. But as boring as he is, he's a million times better than the other prof, that is Langois - He's horrible!

difficult only because the material is difficult. he explains it very well and is a good person with a good sense of humour. helpful. gives "challenging" exams, so be careful.
