Dowd is entirely fine. His classes are definitely boring, but you can do whatever while you're there. If you're looking to fulfill GenEd requirements, this is a good course.

Boring but he is aware of it. Way too much reading for a simple American Culture. Most people were there just to fulfill degree requirements.

Comment:

Lectures are very entertaining and the viewpoints presented are as unbiased as a professor can be. The grade is determined by just exams and papers written and participation in discussion but the grading is generous.

This was a team-taught course, but I wish Dowd did every lecture. I loved his lectures because they were easy to follow and chock full of information. He's also a very funny guy, so I highly recommend taking a class with him and going to his office hours.

Comment:

Lectures are really boring, especially at 830 in the morning like I had, but Greg is a really nice guy who is willing to help you as best as he can. Lots of reading but it isn't a big deal if you don't read all the pieces for the week, the GSI understands. Don't really need to show up since outlines of notes are put on Canvas.

Greg is a nice guy, but lectures can be boring. I didn't show up for lecture much and I was still able to do well, and so it's not the hardest class out there. GSI is very persistent and consistently hammers on people doing the readings, and she enforces this by giving out pop quizzes and calling out people in class to make sure students have read

Tons of reading, but not really necessary to do all of it. Be wary, the GSI will grade everything and luckily I got a reasonable one. However, study guides give the test away. Easy class overall.

Let me start by saying that I can tell Dr. Dowd is a nice guy. But, man, you better have gotten a good night's sleep before coming to class or else you might just fall asleep. Dr. Dowd has a very monotone voice, and he makes potentially interesting material extremely boring. The paper was very hard and those court cases for homework are not fun.

The lectures are not bad. Professor Dowd is passionate about what he teaches and does his best to make it interesting, but reading for the group discussions is the worst thing I've ever done. All of the reading is from court cases. These court documents are long, dry, and hellish. Do not take this class unless you are fine spending hours reading.

Greg Dowd is a really great lecturer. I'm not super interested in American Culture/ History but he made it very engaging and he is obviously extremely knowledgeable.

I took American Indian history. Great lecturer. Could have used a textbook though. Not all the ideas were cohesive without it. Horrible GSI. Discussion was worthless for me. Not an interactive LECTURE. Interesting topic.He was a great speaker but if you have him after lunch you may fall asleep accidentely. Lectured clearly and concisely.Take notes!
