Prof. Meier def made AFH 4450 interesting and fun. Very smart and chill prof. You have to write short response papers to interesting books, and there's a mid-term and final, both are not hard.

Comment:

I took history of Southern Africa. I found the class extremely interested. Dr. Meier's teaching style is personable, understandable and at times, funny. I recommend this class for anyone interested in history.

Comment:

Not only does he know his South African history, but he has a great sense of humor and is good at teaching the material. He gives dense but comprehensive powerpoints, so there are a lot of notes to write, but if you get the material the tests and quizzes are easy. in short, best prof in the department!

Dr. Meier is my favorite history professor so far at UF. He knows what he's doing, he puts everything important on the powerpoints. You have some easy quizzes, take two exams and write two short papers which aren't bad at all. He does have a good sense of humor and hes easy to talk to outside of class. Take him

Gives all the notes you need on a PPT so you don't have to try to figure out what is important which is nice. A tough grader of papers and tests. Also will always put the hardest essay on the test of the options he gives beforehand.

Meier is a sharp guy who clearly cares deeply about the subject matter, and it's hard not to find the history of South Africa fascinating if you're a student of history. He does it justice, albeit in a highly conventional, power-point style, with a few jokes here and there. Assigned texts varied in quality, though none of them were outright bad.

Meier is hilarious and his class is straightforward. Do the readings, show up to class, write down & study the notes on the powerpoint, complete your written assignments and you can get an A. Compared to most history teachers where you don't know what acid flashback inspired their grading formula, you will know where you stand in this class.

Meier does a superb job introducing the continent of Africa to his students. 3000 level course should not be feared, quizzes are straight foreward and papers are very easy. Dry humor keeps it interesting.

Hilarious guy but not the easiest of classes for nonmajors. I just wanted an intro course to African history since I knew nothing about it before but this one is difficult. Apparently he teaches another intro-level African history course, so if thats what your looking for take that instead. Lectures are boring and quizzes seem unnecessarily hard

Professor Meier was a really good teacher. I mean AMH2020 is not rocket science, so it was not hard to get an A in his class. He made learning pretty fun and threw in lots of jokes along the way. He has had like 20 odd jobs in his life and likes to talk about them. He looks a bit quirky, but is a great guy!

I took this class in the spring and signed up for AFH4450 with him in the fall.If you show up and read the books you're fine.He is picky about essays but gives you the questions in advance,so I think that its more than fair.I agree that sometimes its hard to distinguish between countries and people, but that's history for you :) Meier's the man!

Super easy class! Dr. Meier is a really easy grader but he does expect that you attend class and do the work. If you do the reading and pay attention in class it should be an easy B or A. Watch out though because he goes on boring tangents sometimes.

Great teacher with an... abstract sense of humor. Thorough notes, though he expects you read the textbooks. Exams and essays were easy. Takes attendance and keeps track of participation, so speak up! :)
