You read a lot in this class and write a daily response to the reading. He just grades them for completion though so it's easy points. There's 5 in class papers, but he doesn't grade very tough. Mason is one of the chillest teachers I have ever had and one of my favorites. Be sure to get the books, most of what you write your essays on are what is in the group discussion. If you need help just go to office hours but you'll wind up talking to him longer than you expect because he is so interesting. A MUST TAKE PROFESSOR for all majors.

He's a great professor. If you have any motivation or interest in English, you will definitely enjoy this class. BUT, if you want an easy class with 0 work then this is not the class to take. He's very open minded, critical thinking, and overall quite intelligent. He is not a hard grader, as long as you put forth critical view of the book ur good

this class is rediculous.2 hours of HW every class. half of the homeworks you will not know unless you are in class and the other half is on the syllabus. he gives homework in class then doesnt email it so you MUST go to class every time or you will fail. also, if you are shy you will fail. he bases most of you grade on class participation.

I had him for English last summer. Class was pretty interesting because we had group discussions. He taught a variety of books with authors of many different backgrounds; I loved that! We had a paper on every book but it was fairly easy and he's a good grader. I liked him a lot!

Very, very nice guy who is opinionated and interested to hear your opinions about the readings. His class is laid back with interesting readings and one fun group project at the end of the term. Very big on discussion, he really just wants to hear what you think! Tests, both essay questions which are easy as long as you keep up with the readings.

Hes an okay teacher - sometimes it seems like he makes stuff up during class because he didnt prepare a lesson. LOTS of discussion so its a pretty easy class and he also takes attendence. Not the best but not impossible - and hes always late to class so dont show up early!

This teacher is such a flake. Class seems easy because you hardly have any work to do but it turns out to be quite hard with the papers because he pulls the grade out of no where. Take this class if you like to talk in class because that's what the grade is based on.

He's a little weird... but he grades well and as long as you show up to class you'll be fine. He learns names EXTREMELY FAST so don't think you can get by not showing up to class. Three essays, no final (well, last paper is technically a final). Strongly suggest him for Growing Up In America.

I took this for an easy A is full of crap; NOT happening. Readings are cool, not much effort, but you're clueless in knowing your grade. He'll say nice interpretation, you'll write the same EXACT thing for you paper, and he'll say "you're over analyzing." His clarity is scattered, but No final, & 3 papers. He's a space cadet.

The man is a complete space cadet. But who am I kidding, he's one of the best english professors i've had here. he knows his stuff, he takes everything the students say to heart. He picks interesting texts to read. I would highly recomend him to anyone who enjoys poetry.

Loved the class--not too much critical writing, though. Texts we read were totally different than anything I've read before-definitely a poet at heart. Excercises were a bit futile and not always helpful but the class was low key & egalitarian. He exudes a certain sense of calm that I appreciated...
