Awesome professor. Not at Tulane anymore for now because of the hurricane, he was a visiting professor from Lafayette, LA and now he's back to political consulting. Probably will be back! Great class and smart professor!

AMAZING professor, absolutely brilliant, expert in all thing political science, fascinating lectures, easy to follow via power point - any polisci student would be missing out if they did not take at least one of his classes

Comment:

The lectures were always interesting, his enthusiasm makes you equally enthused. He doesnt really give that much assignments but his midterms and finals are killer: 20-25 paper single spaced! You definitely got to like what you are learning and be on your A game to enjoy and do well in this class.

Comment:

Wow. Sutherlin is an incredible professor. He is so knowledgable about the subject matter and presents everything in a clear and interesting manner. Word of warning to the lazy, though: the mid-term and final are INTENSE. If you're not willing to put in hours for them, don't take this class.

The mid-term and final are so hard that it's almost ridiculous, but they are take home and can be re-written. I have never learned som much in a class...I would def. recommend it to anyone willing to spend some time on the writings b/c i learned sooo much!

Professor Sutherlin isn't as hard as everyone thinks. He is very clear about what he wants - thorough answers - and expects to receive them. If you keep abreast of world events and come to class, you're probably set. (Even if you don't do all the reading or get exams pre-graded, which is an option.)

Professor Sutherlin's teaching style is very easy to follow. He seems to have an uncanny ability to coordinate his lecture with the average student's note-taking ability, allowing students to write the information down while simultaneously focusing on the lecture. He does a great job of rewarding.

Comment:

Sutherlin excells in middle eastern and environmental politics. His tests are extremely hard, and his tests are very demanding. However, his classes are memorable (esp. POLI 250) and he is a wonderful person to work with.

I have worked harder for Dr. Sutherlin than most professors, but the work payed off! His classes have been extremely interesting. And though he expects a lot, he's also very understanding. The material is presented in a clear manner and I learned more from his classes than from any other course here

Such a great class - you will learn so much. Take-home exams are hard (referred to it as a baptism by fire to me), but can be rewritten. A billion chances for extra credit, class discussion is fun, stories are great. I'd recommend to anyone willing to be challenged.

Prof Sutherlin is intimidating at first. It is not an easy class, there is A LOT of writing, but no tests. He offers extensions, re-writes, and is very responsive to e-mail. I learned a lot, great prof, great class!!!

Professor Sutherlin encourages lively debate and discussion about the issues. Not an easy class, you will read and write A LOT. At least 40 pages of writing in the whole semester. You actually learn a lot though. A+
