TOUGH MARKER. but I do give her this.. she's a good lecturer and keeps everyone engaged. She literally gives an assignment and quiz every week. gotta put in the WORK to get even just a mediocar mark ! its not a chill course.

UNREASONABLE. gives good feedback but she does not give pass 75% to students even if you've put in the work there's an assignment and test due each week, however, it gets easier after midterm.

Really entertaining and honest, i really appreciate how she allows you to edit your work in this class. her lectures were kinda boring but a good class to improve ur writing skills. gives great feedback too! well respected by everyone.

Your grade is 85% a writing portfolio of 5-6 written pieces. You submit the drafts as the course goes along and submit them again the end corrected w/ the feedback she provided. Her marking varied greatly and her feedback often contradicted her rubrics/outline. Textbook never used. Tough grader, wouldn't recommend.

I enjoyed this course with Kathryn. It's an interesting course, I think more students should take it. Very helpful in making you analyze your writing and career communication. This section was half online and half in class, so we met every 2-3 weeks instead of weekly. Was an interesting structure that I enjoyed.

She is a really hard marker but shes also very sweet. I got an A in the class and my work was never truly outstanding, she just liked me as a person. Participation is important, if you talk and relate to her you'll definitely get a good grade.

Her lecture material is scarce and undeveloped. She is not an effective helper, and she grades unnecessarily hard. Rather than allowing you to improve based on her feedback, her grading becomes more critical with each subsequent assignment; even when I made a conceited effort to address her feedback, my grades kept dropping.

Kathryn's tries to make her lectures as interesting as possible, and she is funny but she is a very hard marker. No matter how hard you work you will get a B, maximum. She is very picky when it comes to grammar and sentence structure for assignments and tests (even if you do not word something the way she would she will deduct marks).

She make the lectures very interesting and actually make you listen even for an 8am class . The assignments were really easy to do, although, she marks a little bit hard. Its the usual prof that you would get for any other communication and English teacher.

Ms. Voltan's class is one of the easiest classes I have ever taken. "Textbook required" I never opened it once. No tests. Attendance is "mandatory" but the few times I went I was so bored I spent like $200 online shopping so you don't need to go. Shes nice, replies fast to emails, and gives good feedback, answers questions well but is a bore.

She seems like a nice person but not a helpful prof. She has her favourites in the class. Very tough marker, I agree with the person that said get ready to get a B max no matter what you do. Also not accessible, not helpful outside the class and unprofessional email responses.

I took this online. Good points: helpful assignment templates Needs work: Professor only answered emails on weekends. Email replies from prof were unprofessional. Very little guidance in how to succeed prior to submitting assignments. I had to do a lot of my own research on how to write different reports. Textbook was not helpful.

Comment:

Professor Voltan is a lovely person. She is very knowledgeable and offers valuable advice on communication. Assignments are not difficult and do not require a lot of time. However, the industry paper ( 25%) does require extra effort. This course is ideal for students in their final year who are looking to prepare for the competitive job market.
