This is NOT a typical USGov class - it's a discussion on US racial politics. Professor Harris is good at explaining the material and has a deep connection to it. He's a bit of a mess and a bit boring, but the class is useful and based on factual/historical evidence. Take notes and implement them in your (2) essays and you'll get an easy A.

Great professor that will teach you a lot. But will never return anything relatively close to on time. His class isn't incredibly difficult but it won't be easy. He wants you to really understand the material and be able to write deeply about it.

Luke is extremely intelligent and knows much about American politics especially regarding marginalized peoples. With that said, he is very unorganized - sends out the wrong readings, answers emails weeks later. He sends out questions pertaining to the readings the day before class which would be a helpful guide if they weren't so last minute.

Professor Harris is relatable, friendly, and very easy to talk to. Would recommend his class to anyone as it is a refreshing look into American Politics and he meaningfully leads the discussion. He genuinely cares about his students, so as long as you do the readings and make an attempt to participate, you can expect to do well in his class.

The intro to American Politics class I took with him was amazing, it gave me a new perception and understanding of race relations in America. I would recommend this class to anyone even if they aren't a polisci major. He missed a few classes however he is very helpful in aiding in class topics and giving personal advice. He is a reasonable grader.

Professor Harris' Civil Rights course fundamentally changed the way that I viewed race relations in American society. He expects a lot - readings are long and typically fairly difficult - but it's entirely worth it. This class was life altering.

Best professor I've had thus far at Vassar, though it is only my second semester. If you do the readings and listen to what he has to say you will have an incredibly new take on the American political system and a new approach to studying political science.

He's the most brilliant social-science professor I've had. However, he doesn't show interest in his students and doesn't entertain alternative opinions. He also doesn't respond to e-mails and sometimes doesn't show up to class. Brilliant dude though, rocks your intellectual world.

One of the most intelligent professors I've ever had. Classes were best when students were as passionate as he was. I would highly recommend his courses. I took the politics of difference and it changed the way I looked at race relations in the political sphere as well as in the personal sphere.

His Civil Rights class was very interesting and engaging. He changed the way I view race relations in American society today. I would recommend taking a class with him, but one has to be aware that he is not fully committed to connecting with the class. He missed a few classes and was very disorganized. He gave very little comments on the papers.

Luke's American Politics class is very interesting and the subject matter is really important. However, Luke didn't show up to class several times, he made little to no comments on papers, and never really connected with the class - just his material.

He did not teach me anything about the way the American political system works, except that it is ****. Most of his lectures were fairly trite. But he's funny and easy to get along with. All of the essays were just repeating what he said in class, and I don't think he actually read them.
