I am disappointed with this art class... Marian does not provide a clear task to do, and every time I feel confused what she wants us to do in the class. She does not really follow a syllabus.

Comment:

Very subjective grader. Her instructions are almost always unclear, and she does not follow her own syllabus or project instructions. Rather than teach, each project she shows examples of art she likes, and then expects you to make something similar. Any project that involved a computer took twice as long due to her inability to use technology.

I felt misguided and unsure of the criteria on every project. The rubrics she provided were unclear and she'd suddenly add on requirements that were tedious and confusing. She requires you keep a sketchbook that must be filled by the end of the semester but more than half of the projects don't require sketching. Didn't learn much, just busywork.

Before I took her class, I believed the art building has lovely professors, because all the classes I had took was great and helpful. But now I can say Marian is the worst, and she lets me know how wrong my judgement about art classes at SMC was. When you have a question to her, 20 things she said only 2 are helpful. WHAT A BAD EXPERIENCE WITH HER!

Despite doing well and being well liked by this teacher, I do NOT reciprocate those feelings. I think she does not explain ANY of her assignments, they are UNBEARABLY restrictive, no room for creativity or exploration. She thinks creativity is doing what SHE does. She liked what I did because I followed the rules but I HATED EVER MINUTE OF IT.

When ever you hear "im self taught" look the other way. Second hand knowledge is what i call that. shes a very interesting artist. great composition. she couldnt teach how to use illustrator/photoshop. she knows it, but no technique. more like being thrown into the pool before you know how to swim. sure youll learn, but u wont be Michael Phelps.

I'm currently taking her for design 2 and I love the class. Don't believe people saying she's crazy. She is not. She can be hard on you, but she pushes you to be the most ceative you can be. Projects where very cool and even though she rambles on she is very smart and gives you allot of help when you ask. gives all students equal attentention.

She is so confused she was confusing to me! Overheard 'shes a bumbling idiot but sweet!'...what got to me was when she after weeks of class switched the printers into each others places..left signin sheet with no indications of what she did and walked out! also 'i put these up in the wrong order' 'o im late/ABSENT' THANK GOD FOR ROMANO /LAB TEC

she rocks. she's very inspirational, i still go to her for help, she is always available to talk. so happy i took her class. yes, she has "assignments" you'll have assignments for life, get use to it. anytime i did not understand her, she took the time till i got it. now i'm in the arts mentor program and happy to have her as a go to.

She is a nice professor. Her class is very difficult because she wants the art projects her way. She does not allow students to be creative or express their art freely. She has a structure that you have to follow, if you want to do well.

Very nice person; terrible teacher for computers - esp if you haven't used Photoshop or Illustrator before. Obviously very knowledgeable, but inconsistent and obtuse, "explanations." Got much better explanations from classmates. Definitely take 10C beforehand and just use this class for more practice. You won't learn much.

Marian is amazing! She doesn't get the respect she deserves. Her knowledge of art is huge. I learned so much from her experience. She expects you to do the work, but the class is still laid back. Definitely not a class for slackers and whiners.

quite possibly the worst teacher of design I have ever had, and I've had a few. Did not teach ANY of the fundementals of design, not one. Really bad.
