Almost all exam based. Show up to class he goes on a bunch of rants that are on the exam. Lecture heavy but not that boring only thing I paid attention to were the rants. Didn't take notes either only on the rants. Drop the class if you get a crappy first exam grade. If it's too late well sorry man and good luck. Better off taking an online class.

Exams are mostly based on what he goes over during lecture, there are open-ended questions and a few questions based on the book. If you can take this class online or with a different professor then DO SO.

Good professor, but tests are very lecture heavy. Attendance is not mandatory but you definitely want to be there so you can write down every word he says.

Avoid Dr. Garr. His SOC 101 class was my least favorite. He made me feel super uncomfortable during class, and he only gives four test so if you mess up on one you are screwed. He gets off topic a lot and overall it's just a long, boring class. He has no filter... he asked me to have sex with during class... super awkward and uncomfortable. AVOID!!

Garr's class is not the easiest, but a good grade is achievable. Gives 4 tests a sem. for sociology which sucks but after the first test you get a feel of how they are going to be. Puts random things on the test that he says in lecture so make sure you attend class & pay attention. He is a funny and very intelligent guy. Overall would recommend.

Probably one of my favorite classes. Garr is hilarious and never boring. Tests are easily if you show up to class and pay attention. He is always willing to help students and has the funniest stories.

Very nice and personable professor. Had him for a few classes. Extremely helpful and likes to joke. Assignments aren't the easiest. Overall, one of my favorite professors.

Garr is interesting. Nice, easy going. Helpful when you come to him, but in class he doesn't explain things very well. Assignments are crazy and he doesn't show mercy with the red pen. He isn't lenient either. automatic -5 points for small mistakes.

Very quirky and rather pompous, but not intolerable. Lectures are certainly interesting, and he does know his stuff, try as he might to convince you otherwise. Still, his tests are a NIGHTMARE - completely random, seemingly useless information from lectures will show up on the exams, so take notes on EVERYTHING. Otherwise, just make sure to study.

one of the easiest classes ive ever taken, fun as well.People say you need to take notes, I disagree, just pay attention and read the book before class. all the tests are multiple choice, including the final. Theres no homework or projects etc. Garr is also a bit of a goofball in his philosophy, but its fun.

I have to disagree with the person below me. Garr is a funny guy and his tests are only hard if you don't listen or take notes. He really tries to involve the class and get you interested in the topic at hand. I never thought I would enjoy a gen ed so much. His teaching really speaks to my inner-cynic. I have a blast listening to him.

Professor Garr is not a very good teacher. He grades on what he thinks is good otherwise its not good enough. Sociology used to be my favorite subject until he took over most of the important philosophy courses.

He's actually a pretty decent teacher. Definitely a bit bias in his style of teaching, but does his job well regardless. His tests are mostly off his lectures so TAKE GOOD NOTES. Tests are somewhat difficult but you should be fine if you take good notes and read the book.

Great teacher. Scary the first couple classes, makes you feel bad for being at wilkes and not at princeton. I enjoyed his class very much, all i did was read the book, made flashcards of vocab words, and did well. Interesting teacher, loves what he teaches, and it shows. 8 am was always a little rough, good thing he doesnt care about attendance.

All I have to say is, if you don't have an open mind don't bother taking this class. I personally enjoyed it, but it's not easy. He grades based on four tests given throughout the semester, and thats it. take GOOD notes..studying ALL the little details, and you should be good to go! I ended up with a B (3.0) and I was happy with it.

Dr. Garr is the man! He makes Sociology really interesting, and I highly enjoyed the class. His grading style is basic, but he bases it only on four tests. He grades nothing else. And the tests are difficult. Step one: take notes. ALL the time. Step two: study ALL the notes (really, ALL). Step three: enjoy what he has to teach!

Garr is excellent teacher, but his excellence is only surpassed by his good looks. He really knows what he's talking about and shows alot of enthusiasm. Although the material might be boring, he makes it interesting. Probably one of my favorite teachers at this school. His class is easy, he's cool and is uber hot!!! what more could you want.
